and got some replies and a link to a thread dating 10 years ago. Some further info there, but I doubt 90 specific models were made, more like 6 seemingly and one going to David Coulthard who was driving for the F1 McLaren team at the time. I also feel that 390hp is totally unattainable without some very serious and heavy engine mods.
PS I also doubt the owner/dealer has more in depth info.

a sump guard is more of a crash bar for the oil pan.
no, a dry sump engine has a remote oil tank which all the oil for the engine is held in.
a sump guard is more of a crash bar for the oil pan.

The other advantage is that the sump (or oil pan) on a dry sump engine is much smaller since it is not required to store the engine oil. This allows the engine to be placed lower in the vehicle for better vehicle dynamics. Dry sump engines can also have a much larger oil capacity since it does not have to be stored at the base of the engine. When you think about endurance racing, having more oil allows for less overall breakdown over time since all of that wear is spread over more oil. So it is definitely a performance advantage but it can introduce more complexity and cost into the system. There can be as many as five or six additional pumps required to move the oil through the system and each of these is a failure opportunity and an added cost for the vehicle, which is why it isn't more popular except on very dedicated sports cars.
An air cooled 911 takes ~10.5 quarts of oil for an oil change, just as a point of reference.
You could also dig around and look at AccuSump, which is kind of a poor man's alternative to dry sump.

Note comment top left corner M113.961 used to build C55 M113.983 http://www.club202.com/forums/attach...4&d=1388782319
Maclaren maybe went a step further like Brabus 5.8?
Owner came back with VIN - WDB2020332F766791. Cant see anything on the datacard that indicates an engine swap like you would with C55.
The pics they sent through show rust spots all around the common areas.
There is a hand written registration card saying "Mclaren sport" and WDB2020332F766791/9 , maybe the /9 provides more data that I cannot see in EPC?.
cheers
fire extinguisher?
I've asked if there is any more info in the service book holder.
The chassis looks rough, I know that if you can see a fair amount of rust out the outside there will be far more on the inside!
