@kowalski- no, your swapping the inner plates and the outer plates to the other side of the car. Everything will be correct but you will still need longer lines.

@popey- thanks, just trying to sort out the confusion and misinformation. Love your headlights by the way. Thank you for your post on that. I'm thinking about following your footsteps and doing the same.

@ everybody thinking about this swap- In general c32 brakes are NOT just bolt on as a lot of people think. This is what's needed to make them work properly-

The hub needs a threaded hole drilled and threaded for the rotor retaining screw. As the c32 rotor is larger and screw hole is further out on hub.

The bolt hole for the brake linings connection block on the caliper frame needs to be upsized and threaded for the w202 factory bolt.

Sprinter van brake lining sensors are needed to adapt to the w202 wiring.

The piston plates need to be swapped to achieve the right piston order with smallest piston first.

longer brake lines are needed as the brake fluid inlet port will be facing down after you swap the piston plates.

And finally your wheels *may not clear your new calipers depending on which ones are on your car.

*HOWEVER* if you don't care about the brake piston order, then all that is needed is the rotor retaining screw in the hub and the upsized bolt hole for the brake lining sensor connection block on the caliper. The rest will bolt on.

The calipers came in today. They are the 2003+ CL600 calipers that use the 345mm disc.

@Super B- when you say smallest piston first, do you mean that it needs to be towards the font of the car or the rear of the car? What issues would I run into if they were in the wrong order? And lastly, where did you get new seals for when you swapped the plates, or were you able to re-use the original seals?

I've seen some people say that the rotor must be spaced, I have seen some say that's not the case.... What is the verdict on this?

By smallest piston first I mean that is the first piston the rotor contacts when entering the caliper. Because our calipers on the w202 bolt in front of the axle, this puts the smallest piston up and the large piston down in relationship to the car.

as far as running them in the wrong sequence i really don't know. Like I said earlier, I've read of people doing it and a guy I know personally runs it that way. If was to take a guess, I'd just say you might get some strange pad wear and a little less performance from the brakes. But I'm not an expert or brake engineer.

The seals between the caliper frame and piston plates are just simple o-rings and reused them as they still looked new.

As far as spacers, I did not have to use them with C32 rotors. A friend with a c280 is using what looks to be the same caliper and rotor as you and he had problems with the rotor contacting the inner part of caliper. I believe the hat on the rotor has a different offset for the SL than the C32 rotor but that could be verified with a part number search.

R171 from a slk350. It was interesting as well because the rotor had two holes for the rotor retaining screw and one of them lined up with the w202 hub. However he had clearance issues with that rotor.

That's soo strange..!,

SLK350 sharing same Rotors with C230 sport, which is 330x28, with 46.5 offset, supposed to fit perfectly...!<>!

When breaking, due to rotation the pad is automatically pressed against the rotor in the front end of the pad
Imagine the rotor tries to move the pad, but the pad is fixed. So it will cause torque that presses the pad onto the rotor in front end and away from rotor in the rear end.
The different size of pistons is to have same breaking power on all pistons. If you miss, it does not equalize different breaking power but even amplify. So you have almost all breaking power on the first piston

Good news- I shouldn't have to space the rotors! The CL600 uses 345x31mm rotors with a 71mm offset, where as the 202 uses a rotor with a 46.5 mm offset. But, the c32 uses 345x30mm rotors with a 46.5mm offset. So only 1mm more narrow than the CL600 rotors, but I won't have to worry about spacing them out.

03-06 CL/S600 uses 345x32 Rotors with 76mm offset, and sharing the same Pads with C32/C55,,

spacing the Rotors is a matter of bolt thickness of CL/S600 calipers comparing to the C32/C55 calipers..

Yeah zayed I'm not sure what's going on with his setup. He said that his brakes came off an 06 slk350. He was under the impression that they were the right offset as well. But hit me up when they didn't fit right. I told him I was running C32 rotors and they cleared the calipers perfectly.

He said he was going to have his buddy at the machine shop mill his caliper mounts down a bit to help them clear. I haven't been able to meet up with him since to see what he did. But he did send me some pictures of his ride with the brakes mounted up.

Very nice ride & rims, Thankss for sharing..

I think he had clearance issue,cause he using a complete SLK350 brakes(calipers & rotors),

he may need to put some washers between caliper bolt hole, to adjust & balance the rotor,

i used a different sizes of washers with R170/W210/W202/W208/W220,,

it's a simple job, with little focus & patience..

You cant calculate rotors position by dimensin/offset because you don't know thickness of the rotor on center.

You are correct there. But I can venture an educated guess off go it, and I can calculate based on the fact that C32 brakes are bolt on for a 202 (based on other threads that I have read through) and that the CL600 calipers, from my research appear to actually be the same as c32 calipers. Which makes sense, seeing that AMG likes to borrow parts off of the bigger cars to upgrade the smaller ones. The only thing (again, from my research) that makes using CL600 calipers difficult would be if you tried to use the CL600 rotors.

I am going to go down to the parts store next week and buy just one cheap c32 rotor to use to test fit everything before I start ordering quality parts. I'll report back later. I may also need larger wheels... haha

+1,

Definitely, S/CL600 Rotors will be wrong choice, C32/C55/CLK500/CLK550/SLK55, are the best..

The CL600 brakes are on! I used C32 rotors, as the offset of the c32 rotor was, as I assumed earlier, the same as the c36. I did have to space the caliper, which I knew I would have to, but this was a better option to having to space the rotor. For those interested, using the CL600 caliper with the C32 rotor will require the caliper to be spaced out 8.5mm.

Still have to wait till the morning to bleed them, I didn't have a helper or a power bleeder :/

Looks good..,

Do you put (4) 8.5mm washers between caliper & spindle..?, are these Rotors from CLK500/550..?

Yes, I used 8.5mm worth of steel washers in between. The rotors are for a 2003 C32 AMG, not sure if they are the same as the CLK500 or not.

Assuming these are CLK500/550 Rotors, cause they are not drilled, while C32/55 should to be drilled, they Exactly sharing same spec.,

when i used CLK500/550 calipers, i put 6mm washers either, means CLK500/550 & CL/S600 calipers are almost the same..

Weird.. I thought all c32 rotors are crossed drilled.

Not the ones from O'riley Auto Parts.... There system shows a picture of a drilled rotor, but the actual ones are blanks. lol. But I'm ok with that. I really didn't want drilled rotors any way, I don't have a need for them on a daily driver.

I see spacer in the hub, are front rims touch the caliper..?
