Transmission maintenance

Hi guys, what is the recommendation to keep our transmissions in tip top shape?

I know the transmission is a weaker part of this car if their is one, and my former C43's transmission grenaded at about 135k miles.

My new car is a 99 and at 43k miles. Is just a tran fluid flush every 10k miles the best recommendation? Anything else?

10k seems early but to each their own. I change mine every 35~40k and check the pressure regulator spring in valve body as well as the wiring harness plug.

Sounds reasonable. The flush depends on how the vehicle is driven and the amount of miles/kms.

keep good fluid in it (MB), and it'll run a very long time. yes also the electric plug can leak, may as well just replace it for how cheap and easy it is. the wires can wick fluid up into the module and that can be expensive.

Exactly, the dealership sells and I use shell ATF134. first time I changed the oil I went to napa and asked to see what their computer recommends. They said it used dextron.... seemed really strange to me it would use a GM trans fluid so I didn't buy it. (although older BMW's of the 90's used a GM tranny) but really our fluid would be closer to ATF+4. But regardless any oil you put in there should be mb spec approved like benzslo said.
