Low Mileage 5.4 For A Steal!

An '01 E55 motor with 64K miles recently listed on eBay for $1995.00. The motor is 100% complete with everything including wiring harness, air box, alternator, water pump, etc. I'm located in Surrey, B.C. and the motor is located in Blaine, WA which is just across the border a mere 15 minutes away. The seller accepted my offer of $1650.00 USD which comes to approx. 2K CAD. I'm picking it up next weekend and will immediately start working on it. I intend on replacing all seals, gaskets, starter and possibly the MAF before I drop it in. Is there anything else that I should look at replacing? I should have it completed within a couple of weeks. I feel like I just purchased a brand new car!

what a fokk, why are all good low mileage engines in north america?
good luck converting your car into a c55, don't fogget pictures when you do the job

don't fogget to check the harmonic balancer, oil cooler gaskets
low mileage shouldn't have any wear on this engine

Hey Kowalski,

Not all are low mileage but I couldn't believe what I was able to get this one for! There are quite a few with high mileage going for a lot more than what I paid. Finding a 64K mile engine for $1650 USD was fortunate enough and it so happens to be only fifteen minutes away. Very lucky indeed! There is a few on eBay with 150K-200K miles that are going for $2500 and $2000 USD plus $500 shipping that don't include the entire engine with all of the accessories. The engine I purchased is getting removed tomorrow as it is still in the car. They just received the car as it was written off due to receiving minor rear end damage.

i envy you brother getting this 64K mile engine
this one would have been great for my car as she has only covered 108000km's

lowest mileage for a donor engine i found is 156000km, this won't match my cluster mileage

i hope everything works out great for you

UPDATE:

This morning I get a phone call from the seller and he tells me that the motor is located in Canada. He explained to me that he listed it on eBay.com as it was more likely to attract a US buyer. He listed the item location in Blaine, WA as that is where he would ship the motor from. I then told him that I'm also in Canada and listed my location as Blaine, WA as I have all my online purchases shipped there in order to avoid duty and brokerage fees. Finally luck is on my side as I just avoided duty and taxes. He then tells me that he will state my location as my Blaine, WA address so I can avoid Canadian purchase taxes as well. He then tells me that he made a typo in the eBay listing as it is a 2002 E55 motor, not a 2001. I'm assuming that the engines are the exact same. I know that the transmissions are different but, are there any other significant differences between the two model years?

daem dude, congrats on avoiding duties, ain't fun to pay them!

if you got an 2002 engine, that's even better for you, now you have the last year engine with last updated parts for year 2002
maybe some internal parts were tweaked for the better

if you change your mind about this engine you can give it to me, i'll take it for free

2002 engines have higher compression, if I recall correctly. Great find!! Super jealous!

Found a really clean 2001 CLK55 that's been crashed in the front in my town. Been sitting for 6 months, not fixed. needs bumper, grille, hood, radiator, radiator support, etc. fenders and headlights were fine though.

anyway, it's got 208k miles on it and is in GREAT shape, but I noticed a small hole was poked into one of the valve covers. the guy went to great lengths to assure me the car was not run with that hole there, but he didn't even know the hole was there until I pointed it out.

I'd be happy to buy a high-miles, well-maintained 5.4l, but I'm worried there's a piece of that valve cover down in the timing chain valley! I'm wondering if I can talk him out of it really really cheap and just disassemble the front of the engine. Worst case scenario I have to replace the gears and chain? I'm not sure...

Questions?

Is the ECU able to be modified with the Eurocharged tune? If so, would it be the E55 or the C43 tune? Also, would E55 headers work on the W202? I'm trying to get as much power as I can without going the supercharger route. Thx
