Buy or not the extended warranty...
My full coverage warranty is over in 45 days. I will still be covered for 1 year on the mechanic stuff (engine, tranny, ...) but not for the rest of the car.
My dealer is offering to buy an extended (3 years, 100K miles) warranty for 3K$ CAN (around 2,200$ USD). I think it is a very expensive insurance policy but with all the tranny problems that I saw on these forums, I'm wondering if its a good investment or not.
I'm planning to keep the car for another year or 2.

I would not suggest it. Take a look at who is offering it and what your deductible is. There have been a number of 3rd party warranty companies that have gone out of business leaving you out your money and holding the bag for any repairs. My dealer tried to sell me a warranty for $2300, she was not too bright as I was able to read their price in the book which was $1700. No way am I giving someone a $500 profit for signing a pieve of paper. On top of that the deductible was $250. So I would have to have $2500+ in repairs during the warranty period to recoup my initial investment, not counting TVM and opportunity cost.

I wish I bought extended warranty with my obsidian black C43. After the warranty the following failed (all prices included labor):
1. Transmission $6,000
2. AC Compressor $900
3. MAS ($400)
4. Broken exhaust hanger ($150)
5. High pitch noise from the AC ($300)
On my silver C43, I bought the extended warranty and I haven't used it yet.
No matter what, it's hard to win on extended warranty. It's just like the money you pay for your house, medical, car, etc. insurance. It's good to have them just in case. What it will give you is a peace of mind... I could have used that $7,750 for more mods.. Scheisse!!

Well, I bought it.
There is no deductible and I did my maths...
3000$ less the tax return that I'll get=2000$
Less the use of it that I will probably do in the next months (500-800$) = 1200$
I'm pretty sure that the person who will buy it in a year or 2 will be happy to give me 1200$ more for my car knowing that its covered for another year or 2...

Here in the States, (in order to qualify for the Mercedes-Benz Premium Extended Warranty) we must purchase the warranty in the first 12 months of ownership and must be purchased by the original owner.
For non-AMG/V12 models, there are several aftermarket companies from which to choose.

There is big difference between US-Canada I think. My car had:
4 years full bumper to bumper coverage
5th year on the mechanic stuff only. This was the basic warranty.
What I bought is extending this for 3 years. Its not transferable if I sell my car in USA . BAsed on that , its probably a product that MB Canada is offering that is not offered by MB USA
