C43 starts then stops
I get home tonight after work and park it the driveway while I shift cars around to access the garage, get back in the C43 and it starts then instantly dies...hmm so i start it again and it does the same thing..I think geeez you've got to be joking... I start it for the third time and it fires up fine..so I park it in the garage and let it sit for 3 or so mins, then i go to start it turns the flywheel for .5 seconds then stops...so I try again and it starts fine, stop and start it again starts fine, stop and start again starts fine... leave for another few mins and then it starts then stops,or goes to start and stops. after second or third attempt always starts fine.
Iv recently (last week)replaced the MAS,Crank sensor and Cam sensor because the crank sensor failed on me big time..this doesn't appear to be the symptoms of the cam or cranks sensor...
Maybe a bad contact in a relay somewhere?.
I need star for home use!.
Any suggestions?

I would recommend you try and see what fault codes are lurking inside. That may point out the problem.

broken earthstrap or flywheel needs greasing?
don't know could be other problems?
a few years ago i heard about flywheel problems, it needed som greasing because of starter issues.
it's been a few years now and i forgot about all the details causing the problems!?

Correct! Grease on the flywheel to better lubricate the starter ring gear, but I don't think this is the problem of the OP

Have you ever changed the fuel filter? It is often forgotten there under the vehicle at the back besides the pump and with time it can get clogged....

This is one of those problems that your going have to systematically go at.. Once you can get it in a no start condition you need to verify certain things. Does it have fuel pressure during cranking? (possible bad pump or relay) if it does then move on. Does it have timed spark? (A lot of things can go wrong here. But your going to have to check to eliminate one system at a time) for all you know it may be something as simple as a faulty ignition switch or as complicated to figure out like a bad spot in wiring harness. Just going to have to start digging.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I was hoping for "yeh we've all had that before just replace this relay" haha. Intermitant is no fun,I'm hoping it will just fail completely. It seems once the car has cooled it starts fine.
I think I will purchase a scanner of sorts, does anyone know of a good star copy which is capable of doing everything the genuine does?
Fuel filter- According to the MB services the fuel filter has been changed twice since new, would they really clog this quick? fuel is pretty good here..I would think this would effect overall performance not just startup?.
Fuel pump - It appears to be working ,ie I can hear it fire up every time i turn the key.
Also If it was the pump would the engine miss or run rough on startup if fuel pressure was low?.
Crank,Cam and MAF sensors - Are all genuine bosch ones, and yes fitted myself last month and I dont recall checking the WIS when I did this!,I guess the usual method is to plug into star and check the waveform produced by the sensors and reset for the MAF?.
All PVC hoses have been recently replaced, including the gaskets around the MAF, I will recheck these incase I have not connected something properly!.
Thanks

I am very curious what is causing this. My son's C43 is doing the same thing. My thought was the fuel pressure regulator, as this was causing a similar problem on my 1995 C280. I haven't had a chance to research it further and it remains very intermittent.

Yes, in some MB Engine models like "M112 & M113", the fuel regulator comes in the filter it self, its quickly get dirty,
that’s mostly can cause some kind of interrupting to the fuel delivery system,
i think its better if a fuel regulator comes in separately in the fuel rail.....

Ok assuming all the work you just did is all good then you have an issue with your Eis control unit. This is not super common but I have seen it multiple times on early das3 cars. This part can only be bought at the dealer and installed there. If you have the original keys you will also need a new key.

There is already a problem with the sensitivety of the receiver ie I need to be very close to the car to unlock/lock etc ,with the new or original key.

The symtom I have is either the engine goes to crank but stops abruptly within .5 seconds,or starts but as soon as it fires up drops dead ..its nice and smooth like turning the key on then straight away off as soon as it fires up...so alot quicker than 5 seconds.

You know aceracer that's a good call I fixed a BMW 540i a while back that would die if left idle for too long. It was a strange deal. Once the sensor got hot or if you touched it with your hand the car would die. Total shot in the dark but you could always unplug it and see if it will stay running. Tthe car won't be happy about running off the map sensor and throw a cel. But worthwhile to try.

Pagz, did you ever get this fixed for good? My car has started doing this. I too also just got a new key a month or two ago.
