I spoke to seller. The car has a VIN, the car also meets all US safety requirements.

MBNA applied for a junk title (New Jersey) for the two cars because they were being partially disassembled for the custom paint job. Seller states that the junk title invalidated the VIN, but I'm certain he is incorrect and there is an administrative process to have a standard title issued. I believe, that process would have to be in NJ as that is where title was issued originally.

The car comes with a bill of sale.

When Mercedes-Benz started making engines for Indianapolis cars in the early 1990s, they were also interested in "Pace Cars". In 1998, they made two, from the small AMG "C43" V8 engine of 4.3 liters.

These special cars had received a reinforced box, an increase in the bore and stroke carrying their displacement to 5.4 liters and an adjustment of the electronics without maximum speed limiter. Before being sent to the USA, they were tested at Nardo to check their top speed, which was 188 MPH so 302 km / h. The power went from 302 HP to 402 HP ...

They were then painted by PPG, the big glass and paint manufacturer for the American automotive industry in Pittsburg, which was the sponsor of Pace Cars with FedEx, at a cost for each car of $ 30000.00!

The two cars were little used during the two years of service, and when in 1999, Mercedes removed their ***** from the Indy program (because their engines manufactured in England by Ilmor were being hit by the Honda engines), both cars have been brought back to the MBNA base in New Jersey, to be destroyed.

One escaped the massacre and was given to me in 2002 by a friend who had collected it in his museum in Florida. She is now in a museum in California, with less than 2500 miles on the clock ...

The Mercedes-Benz C43 Safety Car began service last season as CART Chief Steward Wally Dallenbach's on-track vehicle. The 302-horsepower C43 is painted in series-sponsor FedEx's special purple and orange livery. The C43 features AMG racing-derived brake design, and the E55 shares this technology as well. Two-piston floating calipers and two-piece floating discs control heat better than one-piece rotors and stand up to hard, repeated usage. Adapted from AMG race cars, the discs float on a circle of steel pins, which minimize heat transfer to the wheel hubs, bearings and suspension parts. The front brake discs are massive at 13.2 inches. The vented 11.8-inch rear brakes are taken from the V12-powered Mercedes-Benz SL600 roadster.
