Something rubbing when turning left...

Hi all,

My Right hand drive 99 C43 has an issue with something rubbing somewhere when i turn left while accelerating.

I know the starter motor was hitting the heat shield over the power steering box as there is a dent in that where it has been hitting.

Ive tried solving this by swapping out the W210 E55 engine mounts with W211 E55K mounts, which seems to have made little or no difference.

There was no hitting or rubbing when the W210 E55 mounts went in, and over time this has increased. Replacing the mounts seems to have had no affect at all.

I cant be sure that the rubbing is the starter against the steering box, but whatever it is only rubs turning left, and only if i am applying some throttle. The more throttle and more cornering force, the worse the rubbing sound.

There is a mild vibration felt with the rubbing.

I cant see anything else that looks to be rubbing, but i have not looked to see if exhaust is hitting somewhere or if something else is rubbing that can only rub when turning to the left.

Where else can i look for this issue?

Thanks in advance

is it a high mileage car?
maybe one of your wheel hubs is going bad?
it could cause vibrations

Sounds like exhaust manifold might be touching the body

i will check that out, but there is a fair bit of clearance around there, the starter motor is reasonably close to the steering box, but i wouldnt expect the engine to move that far with new E55K genuine mounts.

Ive noticed the rubbing is getting worse as time goes on, which makes me think it may be the center bushing/bearing assembly?

I know its buggered, but i dont know what to expect from it when the rubbing bush is totally stuffed.

When you say "center bushing/bearing assembly", do you mean the transmission shaft? If it is buggered then the rubbing could be coming from there. Also if the rubber doughnut at the front is cracked, I would recommend getting that changed pronto. Losing your transmission shaft on the road could have nasty effects

Not the couplers, those are both near new and still even look brand new.

Im refering to the hanger in the middle of the shaft, with the rubber bush in it and a bearing in the middle of that.
