Quick Question

I started to smell fuel leak so I checked and a little fuel was coming out from the fuel line in the engine compartment.

See red arrow in the picture below. I noticed there is no clamp on the black rubber. It's as if it's compressed in to the metal fuel line. What I did is I installed a clamp and the leak stopped.

Will this be enough or should I buy the whole fuel line? If yes anyone have a part number?

Thanks.

Make sure that if you aren't using the genuine "click" clamps that you are using "EFI' hose clamps that have a solid band around the hose. see pic, don't you a hose clamp that looks like the one on the right.

I would also suggest checking the rubber return hose that feeds into the Left hand fuel sender, I have seen a few of these leak.

I would also check the breather hose leading up to the filler neck (remove RHR wheel and inner wheel arch cover. I have had these perish on both of my W202's, whilst they will only leak liquid fuel with a very full tank, they will make you loose fuel without knowing where it went on really hot days.

Mickey thanks for the info.
The part numbers don' show what in looking for. This A230 476 8726 just shows a black rubber hose. Is that all I Need?

if that's the case I will have to cut the old hose on both ends. Something I didn't want to do. I was hoping to fund the whole part. The metal part that goes to the fuel injector line. And than the rubber hose and the metal part that the picture shows. All one part, they don' sell this in ONE piece?

Hey Geo.,

Clip not enough to handle the pressure due to full WOT,

and no need to stick with C43 fuel hose only, you can go with the following fuel hoses:-

A) 98-00 (W202 C240/C280/C43), # "202 470 23 75".

B) 98-02 (W208 Clk320/Clk430/Clk55), # "202 470 23 75".

C) 01-06 (W203 C32/C55), # "203 470 03 75".

D) 01-06 (W209 Clk500/Clk55), # "203 470 03 75".

E) 04-06 (R171 Slk55), # "171 470 13 75".

Zayed, you mean clamp right not clip?
So if no clamp than what do I use to clamp it down so hose won' leak?

I thought the clamps that Mickey said would be perfect for that. One last thing, this is the correct hose for what I Need? See pic...

That' correct, fuel hose I need is for fuel rail in the engine compartment. But all hoses I find are for fuel pump to fuel tank as you said. So confusing...

The EPC shows 202 470 23 75 - Fuel Hose from Feed Line to Engine, for my son's '99 C43. The hose has hard fittings at both ends, no clamps. I personally would not drive your car considering where the leak is. The steel tube of the hose where your leak is has a "barbed" section where the hose connects (grooves to prevent the hose slipping off). The sleeve next to the leak clamps the hose onto the barded section. It's hard to tell how far the barbed section goes past the sleeve, so clamping it at the leak may be just barely holding on. A local dealer should be able to get the correct part and there are several M-B dealers with online parts operations that should be able to help. I've used these folks on occasion, https://www.mercedespartscenter.com/...?siteid=215720

Thanks Vince, but 202 470 23 75 keeps coming out as part for fuel tank to fuel pump hose. The one I need is threaded to the fuel rail which feeds the fuel injectors. The other end is threaded to a line which I'm guessing goes to fuel pump. This end is showing in the picture I posted.

Between these metal threads is a black rubber hose. Bottom end is hooked up to the metal part with a pressure clamp. The top part to the other metal but with no clamp.

I'm looking for this whole piece which is like 12 inches long.

I don't know where you are finding that that P/N is from the fuel tank to fuel pump. The EPC is the Mercedes parts system. The description is a quote from that system. The drawing in the EPC shoes a part with hard fittings at both ends. The EPC shows 202 470 24 75 for the hose from the fuel tank to the fuel pump. I know exactly what hose you are looking for. I don't understand what sources are causing the confusion. Try calling a dealer. I find they are often the best source.

No need to be confused Geo.,

Vince is correct,

"202 470 23 75" for fuel rail to Engine (that you need),,

"202 470 24 75" for fuel tank to fuel pump..

No need to stick with C43 fuel hose Geo.,

any of these fuel hose will work as well:-

A) 98-00 (W202 C240/C280/C43), # "202 470 23 75".

B) 98-02 (W208 Clk320/Clk430/Clk55), # "202 470 23 75".

C) 01-06 (W203 C32/C55), # "203 470 03 75".

D) 01-06 (W209 Clk500/Clk55), # "203 470 03 75".

I have no doubt the P/N is correct - both ZAYED and myself have confirmed it. I'll have the dealer confirm it again. But my sense is you are frustrated trying to google the part and you don't want to try the dealer link I provided. The number comes up at about $46 USD. Other alternatives:
1) Take your hose to a hose shop that sells and services hydraulic hose. They can make one up - or
2) Take your to a local race shop or race track that has a parts shop the supplies parts to the teams running the track. I run at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) and they can make up hoses on site. One of our PCA instructors had a leaking fuel hose and I was able to make up a new one for him from supplies I got at the track shop - or
3) Another dealer link: https://www.genuinemercedesparts.com...ose-2024702375

I'll reply tomorrow with P/N confirmation. By the way - what is your location? US? Or?

I did check the link you provided. They don't show a picture of it so I don't want to get it. If its not the whole thing and just a hose I don't want it. My dealer is far from me but will have to drive out there. And I know the part number is correct but I just want to see what I'm buying. Thanks for all the help.

Understand. But I would call your dealer before driving a long way if you want to see the part first. That hose is not a fast moving part and very few dealers will stock it. The online guys will likely order it from one of the M-B parts depots - they get the part overnight in most cases then ship. Look for all the P/Ns ZAYED provided. You may have better luck finding a photo or actual part. I'll check my dealer tomorrow. They have a pretty good stock, but no promises.

Below 2 pdf files I've pulled from the EPC containing in one the image of the fuel lines and in the other the parts list. Hope that helps you identifying and/or confirming the parts needed.

My local dealer confirmed that the correct P/N is 202 470 23 75. He did not have one in stock so I could take a photo. BTW, you are looking for Item #59 in the drawing. There is now conformation from multiple sources that should give you some confidence in ordering one from your local dealer or one of the online sources provided. Hope this helps.

So you made a bespoke part. Does silicone resist petrol?
