Knock sensor:Open circuit?

I have done a diagnosis on my c36 amg and getting a fault code that reads. Knock sensor 1: open Circuit.
What does that mean? Is the sensor broken or the wiring?
Can i move the knocksensor from the knock sensor 2? or isn't it the same? Or maybe borrow one from my c220?
Is it bad for the Engine to run without fixing it?

Maybe your knock sensor circuit in bank (1) is higher than the ECU set up limitation..!,

if i'm not mistaken;

each sensor should reads (0.2V>>0.6V), then increased to (5V>>10.8V), depends to the Engine condition,

should not pull down to (2.5V) due WOT,

i think the signal the ECU take it from Knock sensor is bad, that will reduce the power range of the Engine out put..!!,,

if the cable/wiring to the knock sensors is good, then have to replace the damaged one.

If it says knocksenor 1 is that the one clostest to the bulkhead or the one closest to the radiator in the front of the car?

If you are looking around in that part of the engine, I would recommend you change both sensors. That should give you peace of mind for the future and also protect your engine from possible damage.

I think bank (1) is the one at the lift, if you stand front of the car,,

as Daniel stated, prefer to replace both of them at the same time, those sensors are really important for Engine out-put to the ECU file, for proper duration,,
