Installing Used Climate Control Unit (CCU) - Few Questions

Hi all,

I'm experiencing a few issues and have decided to replace my CCU with a used one from eBay (LCD is finally going; also experiencing a weird A/C issue which I've yet to resolve despite multiple component replacements - that's for another thread). I figured I'd replace the CCU (at the very least it will fix my LCD issue). I saw 503's guide on fixing his LCD; will attempt that on mine once I've pulled it out.

Anyway, back to the questions at hand:
  • Do I need to [re]program the new (used) CCU for my car?
  • I've heard of clearing the diagnostic codes from units from other vehicles; does anyone know how to do that? (I figured this one out)
Hopefully I don't need SDS to do either of these.

I've got the tools to remove the CCU and have replaced my bulb before, so I know my away around the unit pretty well. I've just never have done anything programming-wise to one.

Thanks in advance.

If you buy a used one you will definatelly buy ham in a poke.
You also have to clear codes from the previous car it's been fitted to.

The CCU is a real expensive part bought new.
This is a weak part with fading LCD, best solution is to find a repair shop fixing it for you.
Buying a used one is risky business.
I had to send mine to Germany for repair and it works like new for several years now.
I appreciate the concern, but I bought a used one that was tested from a reputable eBay seller. Glad to hear the replacement is plug and play and no programming is required. I wasn't sure if that was the case as I heard mixed claims.

I will definitely try to repair my old one.

Thanks,

When car was in stationary or driving?
Fading LCD only shows up on vibrations when car is in motion at least mine did.

Repairing this sucka needs a new flat strap soldered between display and circuit board.
503's guide is good for dissasembling the part but repair doesn't work for long.
New strap and soldering is required.
It was tested stationary. It was $119 so I'm not too worried as that's cheap in the grand scheme of MB parts. My old one will fade stationary, moving, etc - didn't matter so I don't think it will matter. Even pressing a button to adjust temperature would cause it to fade or come back. Thanks for the feedback on 503's guide. I'll probably send it off to be properly repaired.
