C43 headliner

The original headliner in my 1999 C43 has started to detach in the rearmost corners. Barely noticeable, but I fear this is the beginning of the catastrophic failure of the attaching glue for this.
I have seen photos of other cars with this coming down, and I am wondering if anyone has developed a way to reattach this material in situ as it were. Any advise welcomed. Entire interior is in otherwise beautiful condition, silver and black leather on a silver car. 68K miles, and garaged, of course.
thanks to all,

Bill

You are on borrowed time. Plan on replacing the entire headliner. You will just make things worse trying to keep it in check.

It is common for folks to think that the glue failed. What is failing is the foam padding between the fabric and the base layer (board). It is an unavoidable age issue. You may get another year or two out of the original but the headliner needs to be replaced.

I appreciate the voices of experience here. Not what I wanted to hear of course, but probably the consensus.

the next question is, factory replacement, or have a good shop redo in Alcantara or the like, forever.???

iI’d like to hear some experiences in this area. I already refinished the sunroof slide in black Alcantara, so a nice medium gray headliner would seem to be the ticket, possibly?

What color code is 5B49? That color of the headliner brand new is under $200. Yet 9B29 is over $1000. Total of 5 colors appear to be available....I just don't know what color codes translate to.

Not a huge issue.

Had one redone on my sisters w202 and was under $300 still holds up and looks factory.

Just make sure to find a good place

I agree, easy fix. I had my headliner done in a darker gray suede/alcantara (I can't really tell the two apart) and it looked great.

I did mine in black it’s a little work to take it out but well worth it
you should make sure you take your time so you won’t bend it when taking it out the door

I'm planning to buy a factory replacement headliner. Generally in the $800 range from the dealer. I don't want to have the sun visors, sun roof grilles, and grab handles not match the headliner.

If you want to keep the car a long time and keep it correct, do as ECTurboGSX said and use dealer. They are likely very low stock, if still available at all.

Otherwise, hire a shop to do grey alcantera to try and match the sun visors. Every single w202 on earth has this issue by now.

Found a local upholsterer that will do my headliner in Gray ultra suede, for $225. He’s done lots of headliners, has good marks on local reviews, so I’m going with it, probably next week. stay tuned, I’ll post some pictures.

Dropped my 43 at the upholsterer yesterday. Going to be going black suede. Can’t wait to see how it comes out.

Finally got it back from the upholsterer. Think it came out pretty nice. I still need to buy new trim for the sunroof panel though.

Idk, I was really worried about how the headliner would look with the different color grills and visors but since I have the two tone interior I think it works. I really like how it looks as is.

looks good. i was thinking of doing mine in black, gray or cream.. something, delete the sunroof panel completely because i keep it open 100% of the time i'm in the car and just paint everything else some other color.
