Steering wheel shake
Have a 1999 c43 and I've done the whole suspension ( Front) and tie rods brakes , rotors and pads.
The steering wheel shakes, I re balanced my tires , a few times , still shakes, was told my wheels are bent at that point ( by .50 oz) and are making it shake ( from 35 mph-65mph)
I got new wheels and new tires.
The steering wheel still shakes. The wheels are brand new oz racing wheels. Perfect condition ! I'm in a loss for words on what this can be.
Please if anyone know what parts to check , or what to do. I'm just speech less , it's getting to a point where I want to sell the car that's how much I hate the shake!
Anyone with any fixes please let me know. Spending allot of money here on these re balancing dates.

do you have another set of wheels you can test with, some wheels might not be completely round?
tires are they of a good brand or low priced?
sometimes it's difficult to balance stuff perfect if parts are cheap Q.
did you replace the front draglink?
maybe your balljoints are acting up, you can lift your front wheel a lill' bit with your jack and put a breaker bar under the tire and feel for play by pressing up and down with the bar?
if you did entire front suspension, I assume you also replaced both LCA and UPC?
good luck

take it somewhere else for diagnosis. tire tech should be able to figure it out pretty easy and then up to you if you want repair at shop or at home.

Have wheels checked for TRUE round and not warped or bent or damaged - even if new.
Have tires road forced balanced.
Have front wheel bearings checked.

assembly.
Yes have the upper and lower control arms in , also.i did take it to a.shop, told them to.check the whole car what could be wrong. And came back with just front control arms ( then I did the whole front suspension)
Minus the drag link ( only did new tie rod.ends)
The shake starts from 40mph up to 65-70mph
I have new wheels on and yes still shakes same.as.old.set that had a.very small bend in one wheel.
I did not replace the trans or engine mounts.
I will take it to.another shop and see what they say.
I do have the center rings for the OZ rims and they are made for Mercedes, fit perfectly.
I will keep the mounts in mind and drag link assembly.
Those are all very helpful,Thank you!
Any other suggestions please add in!

Try to tighten wheel bearings or if they have lots of play maybe replace them?
I've heard that wheel hubs on high mileage cars also could act up?
There's lot's of stuff to check for play.

Throwing $$ at your problem. Must have deep pocket$$$.
Take it to a dyno shop, run it to the speeds to replicate the problem (in the stationary) and diagnose the problem close up.

Now I only have the steering wheel.shake at around 35-60 ( used to start at 45)
As soon as I fix this I will update , but damn this is like hunting a ghost!

Just did bearings, I did think this was going to be the end of it.
Also had a new damper put in.
Nope still shakes at 40-60mph
Might light up some fireworks inside lock the doors and call the fire department.
Any shop I take it to tells me , balance them tires. After 3 of those I'm done with that.
Some whiskey , or small suggestions are welcome once again.

You keep throwing $$$ at this ghost problem.
As I stated in post #14.
Your car is stationary to REPLICATE the problem - better ease to hunt it down.

Differential bushings like I sead before. Get them swapped...also rear subframe get it all replaced back there.
There are a total of seven rubber bushings on the rear not inducing suspension.

When I had my MKIV Jetta, replacing the front hubs and wheel bearings solved this problem, I still have this same problem, and have done just about all the work as mentioned above here, save for the wheels and rear subframe bushings. My car is just shy of 200k miles as well so I am either going to drive off a cliff as well or go back to riding the bus. *edit - I took my wheel to a guy who discovered it was bent. He is repairing it now so hopefully this solves my problem.
Thanks.
Thanks.
