Is the CV shaft on w202 C280 compatible with C43 AMG?

Last Friday I was having some fun with the traction control off and suddenly the left CV shaft snapped and left me stranded.I brought this on myself I know...but still it's kinda the point of owning an AMG right? 😅 It's not my daily driver but I am really bummed I can't drive it as it's my weekend toy. Sourcing one from another C43 is a bit hard as they are becoming harder to find 😏I was told previously that the C280 & C36 use the same cv shafts as the C43 can anyone confirm this please? Thanks in advance. ☺️

If no one else responds then try this:

Call your local MB dealer and ask the Parts Dept to provide the MB part # for your specific VIN. Then, provide the VIN # for a 1998 C280 from the same year and compare the part #'s.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply , apparently the c280 has a different part number, but the C43 has the same part number as the CLK320. I have found one in germany it should arrive in two weeks 😁

I'm glad you found it. Would you mind sharing the part number for the C43 driveshaft?

Cheers,

Of course, A2023509410 is the original part number but now it has been superseded by A2083501510

Did you find a brand new CV shaft from Mercedes in Germany or did you buy a used one from a junkyard?
Make sure your mechanic check for wear and tear issues before he fits the shaft on your car.
Worst case scenario is you have to return it, let's hope not!

This is how much it costs from MB in Germany 774,40 EUR = A2023509410
The new partsnumber A2083501510 seem not to be correct for CLK320, couldn't find any price for the part?

I bought a second hand one for just €228 shipping included, the plan is to get it going again & behave for now. When I am ready to spend such money on shafts I will have 2 customs ones made as apparently the OEM shafts aren't the best for handling a bit of fun. For now I will spend the money changing all front & rear ball joints as being a UK import they are a bit rusty and too stiff to do a proper toe in.

Sorry for the late reply 😬 I replaced them because they were worn out, they probably were never changed since it was produced in 99'.

Any progress on fixing your drive shaft?

Had some beautiful weather today so went for a looong drive, all that hidden power now coming alive on WOT.
My tweak works perfect, the added torque of extra NM transformed my car into a savage, so much better than factory original!
My sunroof slider kicks back all the time on hard WOT's.

It was no cheap mod but well worth the money now getting that constant twisted grin I have on my face!!
Car is so much more fun to drive

The replacement shaft has arrived 😁 now all I need is to get it to my mechanic and get it replaced.

I'm glad you're enjoying your car.
What is WOT? I've never heard of it before.

I hope you get your car sorted out ASAP so you can enjoy her!
Which means "as soon as possible"

WOT is something I don't know either what it is however, you know when you're at the red light and hit the throttle your rear tires etches black skid marks on the ground.
I think this is what they call WOT when you play?
This is what you did when you broke your drive shaft??
Lesson learned the hard way, don't do it again, think drive shafts become more difficult to find nowadays?

Have fun when you get your car in shape.

You mean with the ESP off?

Must have been something wrong or a worn shaft if it snapped?
Shafts for C43 must be compatible with the engine power handling.
Inferior shafts would snap easy, MB wouldn't have put bad stuff on these car as they knew drivers would play around.
Parts do break but that happens when they are worn or it was a lemon?

Lemon is a description of defective parts from factory.
Mercedes nowadays mostly makes lemon cars, there are constant recalls for this and that etc. etc.
Stick with the old stuff W202 as long as you can afford

Oh I see haha, yeah I agree with your stament, I would never let go my W202 I like this era of mercs too much. I think the shafts were worn out. The other had snapped also during shipping from UK to Malta. Some C*** probaly had some fun with 🤬. At least I got the shipping company to pay for that one , Now I will have replaced both of them.

Forgot to ask, when your car was delivered with broken shaft on the transport, did transport company get you a brand new shaft from dealership or did they pay you money then you had to find one yourself?
Buying used shafts, CV rubber protective boots can be damaged and grease can dry not lubricating bearings, dirt and other particles could also enter inside the boot if it isn't sealing properly.
Make sure when you buy used but they are healthy parts.

Actually at first the company didn't want to admit fault, saying it was normal wear & tear because of it's age. So I found one myself & replaced it then I settled the expenses in court afterwards. This one I bought now looks really healthy 😁
