They've been great so far, just broke the 1,000 km mark yesterday.
@1Gunner - any further thoughts on the Michelin X-ice. I live in real snow country (Montreal) and considering 18" although the wheels/tires I'm looking at are ET45.

i had michelin x ice on my w202 (RWD) and they transformed the winter driving. I drove on all seasons for years in the winter and I could do it, but it was a struggle some days.

The x ice were amazing for grip getting off the line and also for handling in general. The compound is optomized for cold weather so they stick better when its cold than an all season or summer tire optomized for warmer weather.

Dont drive them much above 45 though. THey get very soft.

I'm in the Ottawa Valley so LOTS of snow here. They worked great. I was/am very happy with the wintery performance.

My wheel offset is ET30 so have no comments regarding the offset ET45 aside from, make sure they fit!

2017 AMG C43
[QUOTE=jackE68;7074885]Hello everyone,

I would appreciate if you could help me make the right choice.

I have ordered a 2017 C43 Coupe with the AMG Driver's Package (19" wheels, summer performance tires etc...) I like the AMG Performance Exhaust system.

I am thinking of swapping the 19" wheels for a set of 18" wheels or perhaps purchasing a set of 17" wheels if possible to give me more cushion for the winter (lots of potholes).

The OEM tire sizes are:
Front: 225/45 R 18 (95 Y)
Rear: 245/40 R 18 (97 Y)

What are the offsets required Front and Rear and what would be the tire sizes for the 17" wheels?

also,

Would 225 and or 235 sizes fit for both Front and Rear?

Thanks

I purchased RWC 18" and Hakka's and still staggered for Calgary Winter's. Also had my Calipers painted.

I'm thinking about purchasing a AMG43 Sedan which comes with 19" summer tires.
We drive to Florida every winter, leaving central Ontario right after Christmas.
Summer tires won't do if cold and snow during first half of trip, especially through the mountains.
I don't want to have snow tires all winter in Florida, so am thinking of replacing the summer tires with Michelin high performance all seasons for year round use and keeping the original tires for lease end.
Any suggestions pro or con?
Forget this post, I found what I was lookin for in another thread.
Pays to perform a search before posting.

Great feedback, thanks. I'm purchasing the wheels and tires from a reputable seller that verifies the fitment on order. I've purchased from them for other high end vehicles in the past with good results.

These look like Replika R157, and they are a direct fit on the C43 with 225/45 R18 Hakkapeliitta R9 winter tires.

18 vs 19

Are there any scientific facts about which would perform better? New set on 18s or putting great winter rubber on our existing setup?
I live in ski country, the guy at discount tire recommended putting blizzaks on my 19s and leave the staggered setup that is suggested by the factory.
any thoughts?? I’ve always used blizzaks on my MBs but never kept the staggered setup.
Also I emailed Niche about there wheels and they said only 19” wheels would clear our brakes. Weird since you have the M117s on it already!!

I don't think there is any scientific fact if 18" or 19" would perform better and I don't think any study has been done on staggered tires that if they would perform better in the snow? Generally the rules are that wider tires do not perform very well in snow. I purchased the 18" because it was a little cheaper and went with the Nokian Hakka's as they have been rated as one of the best tires in snow. Choice of tire is up to you as many manufacturers make some great tires like the Michelin Ice, Blizzaks etc...

I kept it staggered purely for cosmetic.

Cheers

Usually thinner tires work better in the snow. I went with 18s with an all square set up (225/45/18) for really 2 reasons. 1) 18s are cheaper and 2) Makes rotating tires easier.

Tall and skinny.. Skinner tires exert more force because they don't spread out as much.. you want them tire to bite down through the snow.. Or if you don't believe, call Tire Rack they are the experts.. why ask us Macaroons :-)

We seldom get snow, but do get lots of rain. As such, I decided to keep a staggered setup. However, my C43 has the optional 19" wheels and I was unable to find any "good" winter tires in the standard sizes and the selection of 19" rims was almost nonexistent. As such, I decided to go with 18" rims, which gave me a good selection of tire options. In the end, I chose Replika rims and Michelin X-ice Xi3 tires from PMC Tires:
https://pmctire.com/
(as a happy customer [no other affiliation], I strongly recommend PMC Tire)

Here's a copy of my order and research data on the wheels and tires:

That's a bit high for the rear. According to the sticker on the gas door the rear should be lower than the front.

No, I don't know it by heart but going off hand here right now my 19's are at 39 front and 36 rear. I bought winters which are 18's and was wondering what people putting them at.

putting AS tires on 2018 Coupe

Just going through ordering these today. The only run-flat option in an AS tire was a Pirelli that was going to set me back $1700 installed. Went with highly recommended Michelin AS (non run-flat) and will keep the run-flat summers that came with the 19" wheels to put back on at end of lease. Can't be bothered with the seasonal swapping and only do occasional snow driving. Will always have the original tires to go back to in summer if I change my mind. Also, was under the impression that even non run-flats would make little difference in the ride (and that it's all about the suspension) but the guy I spoke with said these AS Michelins will in fact make a difference. Will see ..

You're doing it wrong. M+S is 39/39 medium load, 42/48 heavy load front/rear.

Nice surprise this morning as my wheels/tires from my C400, which fit other C43s, didn't fit mine!

Apparently, he said whatever package i had has bigger calipers. I cannot recall getting a different package...unless the 19s come with a track package? Goldwing Autocare took off the same 19" rim as mine with my rims. Oh well, they made it right and fixed me up. It was the hub and not so much the caliper. The offset on my bill says +30 and 66.5mm.

C250 Coupe
Hi guys, i would like to max out my wheels and would like to know what is the maximin size and the setup i can go for C43 coupe? I am currently on the original 19” rim. There’s no winter in my country so i don’t need a winter tyre.
Please advise, much appreciate.
