What's up guys, just wanted to give the forums an update on 2018s release and some opinions on exterior color.

I finished building my custom 18' c43 last week and my dealer called with an unexpected issue. New to the 18' in the US, selenite gray magno became available and that's the color I chose. Problem is it wouldn't let him lock in the build and after some investigating it seems Mercedes isnt going to be producing any 18s with that finish off the bat and they won't give a time frame when they will start. Seeing as I'd want the car ASAP I was forced to go with a different color option.

We also talked about build dates, I was eager to get a June build so I could have it sooner but he mentioned that the government still has to pass the car and ok it to be released, and as of right now it he said its scheduled at the end of August/early September, possibly later. So for those who do have a June build in the US don't expect it until then. (Unless that was a bunch of BS)

Few things to note. The manager at my dealership said they'd give me $1000 towards a wrap as courtesy since I couldn't get the matte gray. This now opens up an entire new option for literally any finish or color I could want. I'm not experienced with wraps but I know they only last about 5 years. I am going to be buying this car and keeping it hopefully past 5 years so this kind of bothers me. I will however be adding a ceramic coat to protect the paint as soon as it comes in if I decided to skip the wrap and love the color. Which brings me to the next question.

As far as colors go, which did you guys go with and why. As of right now it's locked in as black, can't go wrong with black but I kinda want it to stand out. The brilliant blue looks great online and in pictures but I've looked at it time and time again at the dealer and it just doesn't do anything for me unless full sunlight is on it. I was thinking about the Designo Cardinal Red, definitely a great stand out color. My current car is white so I kinda wanted something different. Also, I will have full night package, including the new studio package which adds more black in the grille, side skirts, spoiler and wheels. So torn between spending the extra on a color I like or just excepting the $1000 towards the wrap and getting anything I want.

Love my cardinal red. Looks amazing in full sun.

You could always just go with a Xpel stealth wrap which protects the paint and makes it matte. So you could still get the matte selenite by just doing that. Or make any other color matte as well.

Yeah I'll look more into Xpel stealth, thanks man.

Have any pics of your car to show the cardinal red?

The red is nice, and it's twice the cost of the regular metallic colors. Personally I'll never go with black again, too much work keeping it nice looking, and it shows every scratch & swirl. And this is why I chose Iridium Silver for my C450, and I'd venture a guess that color will be worth more when I trade it in since it's one of the most popular colors for the W205.

Congrats on making the purchase bud! Bummer about the Magno Selenite Gray, but that's okay, you could end up liking your color a lot more. If I was to do this all over again and didn't have the option of Magno Selenite Gray, I would definitely get either Selenite Gray or Obsidian Black. I hate maintaining black cars, but there's something really nice about a well maintained black Mercedes. I would repurpose the 1k to a proper paint protection job as opposed to a matte wrap. I have yet to see a single car in person where the matte wrap rivals the look of matte paint from the factory.

I know dude I'm so upset I won't be available for a while. I'd wait but I'm too impatient haha. I was wondering about factory matte paint vs vinyl and was afraid it wouldn't look as good. Will prob but the money towards ceramic. Here in NY I got quoted $2100 for lifetime guarantee of Ceramic Pro, 5 layers. Expensive lol.

The start of production for the 2018 models is 7/1/2017, so it would be pretty difficult to get a June build.

Love my polar white. I had ordered my 2017 C43 Coupe June of 2016 and took delivery November. It does take quite a while build if you are getting the coupe as it has to come from Bremen, Germany and I believe the sedan is built in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama? Delivery time might be quicker.

Wow, that sucks if I have to wait until November. Hopefully it will be quicker and yes I'm getting a coupe.

Another update. I went to my local Detailing shop that's considered one of the best on Long Island. He said instead of getting a wrap, you can get a clear or matte bra or on the entire car that will provide more protection and last longer. They were doing a white Porsche that was gloss and added the matte film to make it look satin. It looked amazing. I'm thinking I'll get the cardinal red and wrap the car in that film to either make it satin or clear depending on how it'll look. He said I can also add ceramic coating on top for even more protection.

Diamond Silver is the best blue tinted Metallica Mercedes has ever made. It stands out from the iridium cars, and looks grey at night. I bet the Studio package on Diamond Silver would contrast very nicely.

Full disclosure, I drive a Diamond Silver with blacked out chrome.

Really like the designo saddle brown seats, not an option for us here in the UK on the coupe, otherwise we would have definitely gone for these.
