Expected lowering spring installation cost?

For those who have had shorter springs fitted, what were the installation costs associated? Did you get an alignment afterwards?

get an alignment done a week later after settle. Should cost ~$400 for springs alone and another $200 for the AWD alignment.

Prices can easily vary +/- a couple hundred dollars depending on location in the US.

In CAD I paid $440+tax for install, and $150+tax for alignment but I believe this is on the higher end. I had both done at reputable high-end shops.

Phoned around a few shops but they are refusing to fit the springs as they haven't supplied them. Seems a bit ridiculous

Yeah it seems crazy to me as well. When asked why they state that they cannot be sure the parts are genuine/safe.

After telling them I bought the H&R springs from a genuine reseller and can provide invoices, they then just go on about it being company policy.

I get the feeling they don't want to miss out on their insane markups. I thought it was odd when the first place said it, but all of them so far have said the same...

Maybe things are different here in the UK?

FWIW never been a fan of lowering springs. The damper/strut/shocks are designed to work in a certain range by changing springs without changing shocks it's hard to know how the ride and handling will be effected. Now Coil Overs are a totally different kettle of fish.. Coil overs match the lowered stiffer springs to a matched shock so that ride is not compromised but the ride height is reduced. Keep in mind actual real Mercedes Benz engineers designed the suspension, they kinda know what they're doing.. Just Sayin'

yes, the MB engineers know what they're doing, but they also design the suspension with a number of different compromises to keep the 'masses' happy. Don't make the car too low because it will cause problems for people with steep driveways or speedbumps, or who have to drive through lots of snow, or who are a bit older and don't want to bend down to low, etc. Not to mention they want to keep the ride with a certain level of comfort...though I think they failed on that last one.

The lowering springs are also designed by engineers, and thoroughly tested for each platform. Overall, I agree, swapping springs isn't as good as full coils, but in no way are they crap either. This isn't kids cutting springs.

Just noticed the negative camber on the rears is insane right now... Hopefully an alignment tomorrow will fix some of that

Had the alignment done, here are the results:

As suspected there are no camber adjustment so they fixed the toe and left it at that. Reckon the camber is reasonable?

I didn't like the negative camber either. I also didn't like the thought of constantly replacing tires. I installed camber kits on the f & r to remedy that. I suggest you do the same on the rear. Check out Kmac suspension.

Mine is the same. -2.5 deg of camber is not that bad is it? Specially if you track your car?

Not at all... it was really a matter of preference for me and as long as the toe is straight tire shouldn't wear too prematurely. I just wanted mine back to the factory alignment parameters...

When I first saw it I was expecting something to see like a -3 to -3.5 when I had the alignment done. Now I know it's at -2.5 I'm more than happy to keep it as it is.

The tyres are the crap stock run flats, so if they die prematurely it's no big loss.

Not quite square on but gives you an idea of the stance from the rear.

Hi, munis. Just noticed that you have C43 sedan model and you lowered it, do you have same alignment spec as posted in this thread?

-2.5 front, -3 in the rear ok but what you need to be careful is toe. MB won't set the toe to 0 degrees but if you don't, that is where you will run into wear problems most. I've discussed with a number of alignment specialists and they all agree. Remember these cars have a negative camber right from the factory. If you've got someone who knows what they are doing doing the install, they'll align it correctly.
