AMG maintenance expectations

Hi,

I am new to this site and currently do not own a MB, however; I am looking at the current C300 and C43 models. My question is about long term maintenance expectations. I come from the Honda, Toyota and Subaru world and I keep my cars for 6-8 years. I usually put 14,000-17,000 miles per year on my car. What should I expect for maintenance costs when compared to what I experience now? Will a $800 brake job (pads and rotors) on a Subaru be $1,600 on a C class and $2,000 on an AMG? Any direction would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Brian

Greeting, a very good set of questions. The short answer would be yes. Parts and labor are more expensive on MB's, certainly more on an AMG. Consider the normal wear and tear items.......tires being a big one. MB's are known for eating tires. Service intervals will be more expensive, however, finding a good 'indy' shop can mitigate costs versus going to a dealership as you probably know
There are servie plans to get from dealers to cover A and B services......but I have never bought one as I have always gone to an indy shop for general maintenance. Dealer for anything warranty related.

I'm sure more folks will chime in soon. But yes, expect to pay more for everything when getting into Mercedes Benz and good luck.

Yes more

I’ve a 2019 coupe on order and have been reading everything I can. Mercedes is a German car which is well engineered but costly to fix. Many are leased so people have them on order. If you are going to keep past warranty an extended warranty is mandatory. Any MB dealer can sell the extended warranty so shop around. Most dealers quote a rediculous price for them.

It it is essential in a car built to close tolerances to maintain them precisely as recommended. Do not skimp on scheduled maintanance.

Personally, I wouldn't keep any new mercedes driven daily for more than 3-4 years...

All good feedback so far. To further the comments on maintenance, any "consumable" maintenance you can perform yourself will also go a long way to mitigating costs, e.g. oil changes and brakes. Both are very simple to do and can easily be completed in a garage or parking lot if you're willing and able to wrench.

Tires are a hot topic too. I can attest to the my C43 eating up the fronts. I'm at 17k miles and front stock Conti run-flats are in the danger zone with regular rotation. I'm trying to wear them out as long as possible though. AS3's replacing the fronts only within the next 2 weeks.

And there it is! Was waiting for that one

I'm not sure about these newer model 'AMG's', but as far as I know/can tell.....more output, better shocks and bigger brakes accompany the true AMG cars, along with style elements.

Not a hand-built engine but the 2019 C43 appears to be a great car that might be worthy of being an entry tier AMG. Definitely looks the part on the rear end.

not calling fraud, not calling anyone out on it, BUT just MY input, 43 AMGs to me are not seen as REAL AMGs. They just simply do not posses that "One Man, One Engine" hand built engine. Yeah they have the big brakes, they have AMG body styling, but cmon guys.. its not a 202 43 AMG, 32 AMG, 55 AMG, 63 AMG, 65 AMG. You guys know what real AMGs are. 43 AMGs are beautiful cars, but i think AMG and/or Mercedes should rethink the nomenclature for these cars to give them their true identification. JUST me though, and well the same goes for other AMG owners as well.

I most definitely will, and so is everybody else.

If you own and or have ever driven an AMG. Its a night and day difference.

And to answer OPs question, If you plan to keep your car beyond factory warranty, it would always be wise to consider extended warranty. It is always good to have that peace of mind, GL!

The AMG Project One hypercar isn't one man one engine. Guess that's not an AMG either.

He's a bipolar cancer and ruins nearly every thread he decides to comment in. You can block him but he's so polarizing that others comment on his insanity and you still end up drudging through his nonsense. Really disappointing mods repeatedly let him continue on like this.
