Convertibles - open or closed case
After 3 months driving my convertible including lots of short trips and knowing the risks of leaving it open un-attended ( rain, birds and vandals ) ,I've got into the following routine when the top is open in seemingly nice weather and car is out of sight :
Up to 5mins or so leave it open
Any longer out of sight I close it
Its not laziness but I don't want to wear out the top mechanism prematurely
Just curious what others do .

Last summer was my first warm weather with it and I was a little more cautious of leaving the top down.
This year, I do it all the time. I make sure nothings in the car, and glove box is locked. The center console locks with the doors. Haven’t had any issues.

Thanks for replies .
My main concerns were a sudden un-expected downpour of rain or vandals doing damage intentionally . I would hate to return to a wet or ripped interior.
I guess the opening/closing mechanism has been tested for many thousands of operations when they designed the car ,so I probably shouldn't worry about it ?
After 3 months I'm noticing the dust is building up inside ,but I still absolutely love the car !

It's a really sick ride. It made me fall crazy in love with convertibles.
I do hate the dust problem.. also, the back seats need a constant wipe down or they build up a black film from road pollution.
I have zero concern with the roof mechanism - if it breaks, MB will have to figure it out.
