2nd ECU

Just a quick question, if I purchase a second ECU from a wreck, can it be cloned to my original ECU? If so, does the second ECU have to have the same specs as my car?
Thanks,
What you can do if you want to keep your original ECU untouched, is buy a brand new ECU from Mercedes through a licensed third party shop with proper authorization (Mercedes wouldn't sell a brand new ECU to YOU because it is a theft related part(TRP), but they will sell it to an authorized repair shop). Then you need to find a third party SCN coder (we have plenty in Canada) who will marry the brand new ECU to your car. Now you will have two working ECUs. Keep one, tune the other. The reason you need a brand new ECU is because it is not locked to any car. An used ECU is locked to the car it is coming from, so a SCN coder cannot marry it to your car. But a brand new virgin ECU can be married to your car by an SCN coder because it is blank.
All this is a huge waste of time though, as the best tune for our car is a JB4 piggyback which traps considerably faster than any full tune.
