Engine Data Screen Accuracy

So I was watching the engine data display screen on my 17 C43.
I was surprised to see that full throttle pulls only showed a max of around 325 Tq and 275 hp.
Anybody seen better numbers? Should I be seeing a full 362 HP and 384 Tq?
I got walked by a C400 a few weeks back which I figured was chipped but now that I see these numbers, could I be running down on power?

Signed,
Curious George

Have often seen the gauges maxed out - maybe your car is in a 'soft limp'?

yes do u have a PE exhaust because if the valves are malfunctioning that could cause it.

Whats interesting is the low/mid range seems to be "normal" based on my butt dyno, but it's the top end that is soft and the power gauge shows losing power but there are no other messages on the dash or any service notes in the menu. I would have figured it would have a message if it was in an official "limp mode".

I do hope however there is something wrong because I need more speed. Lol

Yes I do have the PE and it seems to be loud and pop normally.

sounds normal, just an idea might not be the cause but I have heard that happening a few times with the valves causing soft limp.

The car sounds normal for sure, it's just not showing full power (assuming the gauges are correct) and the car does seem to drop off power in the higher revs.

So just to clarify, there is in fact a "soft limp" mode that cuts some power?

The numbers are by no means accurate, but they should max out at some point through the rpm range.

Like Dan mentioned, you could be in limp mode or you may have the problem I had, a boost leak. I could hear a hissing noise when I got on the throttle. My car was only making 7 psi because my intercooler was not connected properly from the factory.

When you get the chance, take your engine cover off and inspect the hoses behind the radiator, make sure they are all tight, especially the gasket from your manifold to your intercooler.

The clamps seem tight (the ones I can reach) so I've gone to the dealer and they said they will need to test drive it.

Fingers crossed they find the problem quickly.

And thanks for the link DieselDan

So the tech says there is no such thing as soft limp mode and he wasn't sure if the gauges should go full power.......Ugh.

He was going to do a bit more research but I suspect not much will happen as a result.

"Soft limp mode" is more of the defacto forum term. What's really happening is a non-critical operation code is being thrown in the background, but as the doesn't "technically" effect operation, it doesn't throw a CEL. It's silly, but if it's actually the case, the tech should see a code on record related to the PE operation.

Keep in mind this is showing kW, but is pegged at 270 most of the video which is 362 hp.

Great Video.

Mine doesn't get anywhere near that. It wavers on the way up and then TQ drops off a lot just before the shift.

I'll take a longer video shortly.

If the car was sitting for a while at some point, maybe try taking the battery out of the car, charging it fully, and reinstalling it after resetting the ecu. This worked for a friend of mine.

Your hp bar is not even hitting 300, clearly something is not working properly. I wouldn’t try to self diagnose. Set a service appointment, get a dealership loaner car, and simply tell the to fix it. That is what they get paid to do.
