Whining noise 2017 C43 Sedan while coasting - thoughts?

nope, but they feel like they did me a huge favour (I mean I guess... other than the fact that MB Germany pays for the replacement when I have been buying from this dealership for a decade, although I am sure many more customers purchased for way longer) for replacing the rear diff two times when both the replacements are broken and concluded the sound is the same...

They MB Germany will not cover the third replacement at their dealership so I will be out of pocket if I insisted.

At that point I’d just give up and drive it until something happens and force them into paying up as they were aware of the problem. You have much more patience than I do. My BMWs were the biggest POS and BMW knew all their cars are garbage so when they needed warranty work (constantly needed it) they always got on top of it as soon as possible. MB is riding their 60s/70s/80s reliability train too hard so every time I need anything looked at there is always massive pushback. Seems to be a common theme.

I will probably visit in person and try to talk with the service manager or find a new dealership and have my fingers crossed lol. Like I said, hopefully your experience is better.

picked up the car Friday after they replaced the front diff. Car went back Saturday. Noise is still there. They haven’t called all week. I assume they are struggling to find the noise. The shop foreman is going to use a special Mercedes microphone kit and mic up the car to trace the source. I told them it’s the rear diff again.

@osmanbenz I got an idea, do you mind posting the work orders of the last repairs of your differential for us to see, if you do mind please at least post the part numbers of all the (front ,rear etc.) differentials you replaced, I wonder if they are reman differentials. If they are hopefully you can get your shop foreman to order a new one instead of a reman and try to see if that eliminates the issue?

Adding to this I have a 2017 E43 and have been battling this issue for a year, we have bad dealers in Ottawa Canada. Luckily I have an extended warranty but it’s coming up.
The dealer replaced the diff last week and the noise still is there.
rear diff part # 213-350-07-01
Dealer notes:
CONFIRMED CUSTOMER COMPLAINT, PERFORMED ROAD-TEST FOUND NOISE PRESENT ON SMOOTH ROADS ON DECELERATION NOT TIRE NOISE OR WHEEL BEARING NOISE SUSPECT REAR DIFF, LIFTED VEHICLE PUT VEHICLE IN DYNO-MODE, HAD VEHICLE SPUN TO 100KM/HR CHECKED HANGAR BEARING AT DRIVE SHAFT VERY SLIGHT NOISE, CHECKED REAR WHEEL BEARINGS NO NOISES, CHECKED REAR DIFF FOUND REAR DIFF MAKING LOUD HOWLING NOISE. SUSPECT NOISE IS TRAVELING TO HANGER BEARING.

I also have a melusine/whistle, when I drive 80-100km/h (50-60miles). New oil in the differential did not help.
Can you throw here a quick guide what could be wrong?

Think quite of us moved on with this car, those who haven't ended up living with it. There is pretty much no remedy for this noise and can be considered as a characteristic of this vehicle. Just enjoy the vehicle.

Have you since parted ways with your C43? I occasionally search back up on this topic to MAYBE see if there is a clear cut fix or if it really was just luck of the draw on these cars. I took your advice and am just enjoying the car with music turned up a bit hehe..

You are probably not asking me but in case you are, nope I kept the vehicle, I still enjoy it, it was always my winter daily here in Canada. This year was different as I had to leave the country for a few months and when winter came I didn't bother with putting snow tires and just garaged the vehicle till this summer. The closet replacement I was looking at was the CLE 53 and C 53 (upcoming). Other than that, I found nothing that interests me enough to switch.
