H&R VTFs Creaking / popping noise from passenger rear

Hey guys,

I recently got my VTFs installed. Could not be happier with the ride quality, but the rear passenger side is making a kind of squeaking/ popping noise everytime I come to a half/stop and then accelerate from the stop again slowly. Almost as if something is unbiding as I stop, like when the rear rises due to inertia and squats again when I accelerate, that is when the noise happens. It also happens I am backing into a steep pavement or driveway at an angle where the rear passenger side gets onto the tarmac first.

It is just one side, so I feel like it is an install problem. Any ideas what should I ask my mechanic to check for?

Are the lug nuts all tight?

Yes 5mm. But this is definetly suspension noise. If I go to my trunk, hold it and shake the rear end with my hand, like push it and release it again and again with my body weight, I can clearly hear the squeaking sound coming from the rear. From the rear it kind of sounds like it is coming from the centre. May be it is my sway bar bushings?

Surely your mechanic will help you troubleshoot the noise and rectify the issue?

Man for most of the indy mechanic in my experience, it is better if the customer can diagnose the issue themselves.

Wow, wonder why they'd bother to be in business then? I guess it's different in different parts of the world.

I am not sure if it is the same but when I had eibachs on my old car the bottom of the spring was not seated properly so it moved when under load.

Not sure if that would apply to your situation or not

What Alexasa said would be my first thought. Over or under torqued. Next thing that comes to mind: when they installed them, did they put the suspension under load before they torqued things back down? Sometimes that can lead to a shifting once it's back under load coming off the lift. One other thing, and I know if seems unlikely (but have seen it more often than anyone would think), could they have installed a spring upside down?

I do not even know how to react if they did that. But they are not that bad. Few of my friends got their C43 lowered from them. My first guess would be what alexasa said or the springs is probably sitting in a weird position.

Thanks. Should the VTF adjustable springs come with a wrench to adjust it? I bought one and it didn't have it. Thanks again.

The problem got solved guys. The rear spring was not seating properly and just had to be rotated a little bit. Works perfectly now. No noise and super smooth ride. Hope it stays that way.

Good to hear! Have you taken it for alignment since?
Just curious about camber numbers with vtf’s, thanks!

Just got it done yesterday.

All fronts -2.5, rear driver is at -.275 except rear passenger which sits at -3. As there is no adjustment possible I am stuck with this. Don't know how bad these numbers are. May be you guys can chime in. My height is maxed out in the rear, and 35mm higher that the lowest position in the front. Ride quality so far feels fantastic.

I thought so. Thanks for your help. I'm going to instal my VTF on Monday with SFG Autohaus. If you don't mind, how much did you lower yours?

Ok, thanks!
I’m still on h&r springs, if I remember right my fronts are -2.1° and rears are -2.0°. I did have my alignment guy pull both rear lower arms in by grinding the elongated hole.

It’s been holding up well last time I checked. I’ll probably go with kmac camber kits if I decide to switch to vtf’s.

I wrote it in the post above. Also kevin knows. Tell him lower mine the same as the blue C43 you did.

I hear you on this one bro. If I had a lift and all the tools I’d need in my garage (and the ability for Merc to send me parts for free), I’d never, ever, ever, take my car to the dealer or an independent mechanic.

I’m sure there are some good ones out there. I’ve met maybe 2 my whole life.
