Hello Party people. I cannot seem to find any more information anywhere here or elsewhere that refers specifically to what Mercedes refers to as the "AMG Leather". Is it real lather? Is it NAPPA Leather? I am trying to figure out how to care for it properly and how resilient or sensitive it is to Jeans..etc..
So I call on the Hive mind here to help me figure it out. I just upgraded to a 2019 and sold my 2017. The upgrade was 100% worth it. Attaching a pic for ya'll. You can actually see my old 2017 outside.
I have the perforated (courtesy of the ventilated seats option) leather seats in my '18 C43. It's real leather, but not quite as smooth/supple as the Nappa leather option you can get in other models. MB-Tex is the artificial leather option. I had MB-Tex/DINAMICA (synthetic alcantara) in my old W204 C63. I have enjoyed both options for different reasons.
To my knowledge, you cannot get Nappa leather on the C43 here in the U.S. Next step up from the regular leather option is the "designo" leather.
It's either MBTex or leather, since it says leather I'd say it's leather. The MB leather has a slight pebble grain to it. Nappa leather is smooth with no pebble grain and is softer to the touch.
As others pointed out - in the C43 you're limited to MB-Tex or Leather. Nappa Leather is available in C63/C63S. On the C63S it's a no-additional-cost option.
I have a 2016 C450 with saddle brown Designo seats - I believe those are Nappa, at least the sheet on it says so. As you can see, they don’t really wear or stain. I use a special kit with leather cleaner and lotion every few months and take out quite a bit of dirt every time, but the seats don’t really show. Only thing which is a bit annoying is the beige stitching as it darkens - but I’ve managed to clean them out fairly well.
I almost exclusively wear jeans and have yet to scratch them, so they do seem rather wear resistant.
