"17 vs 19" face-lifted 43 AMG

Hi people,

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm in the search for a lightly used 43 AMG sedan in Europe.

My question is if it's worth to push 5 to 10k more to get the the face-lifted one? Difference could be even more as either way I want one with a performance exhaust as retrofitting or other valved exhaust is quite expensive.

I've read a long extensive thread here if the new one has bigger turbos but to me is still unclear as I'm planning to get a tune but not chasing crazy numbers but was wondering if the gains on the new one would be greater.

Well, I'd anyone experiences both was wondering what they think about it.

Thanks,
Bogdan

only reason to get a facelift is for the appearance and tech inside.

You might have fewer issues w/ wheel/tire damage with the new design and softer suspension in the facelift.

The new digital display is nice but it's just to far outside my budget.

Not sure what you refer to by wheel tire damage but softer suspension sounds nice, just that is it something certain or could be placebo?

I have not driven a pre-2019 before, but my 2019 suspension is so soft such that I have to select Sport+ suspension (hardest setting) every time I drive and it is still too soft.

Soft ? I find the suspension stiff in sport. I don’t use the sport+. To me it’s good on the highway but not in local street traffic.

Way too soft. Rides like a boat in Comfort. In Sport+ it is softer than my Audi S5 in Comfort.

18s or 19s? I had an S5 on 20” before the C43 and it was softer in all settings compared to the Merc...which I find a pretty stiff ride...maybe the performance seats add to the harshness?

I have an '18 (pre-facelift) myself. Have had it for just over a year now. There are pros and cons to both.

Pros for the facelift/LCI:

- The LCI cars have a much more aggressive rear diffuser and exhaust tip design (which I prefer to the pre-LCI design/configuration).

- The LCI cars have the ability to be equipped with more tech (including the 12.3" digital instrument cluster).

- New steering wheel design on the '19s is very nice.

Pros for the pre-facelift:

- I prefer the front bumper and diamond grille design on the pre-LCI.

- The PE on my '18 seems a bit louder and more anti-social (more burbles, crackles, and pops) than what I experienced when driving the LCI cars.

Can't go wrong with either choice. It all comes down to personal preference with respect to the aesthetics.

I don’t think the seats can contribute to stiffer or softer damping?! Nor wheel size? Perhaps we are taking about different things here... ride comfort as opposed to suspension damping... stiffness and harshness are different things in my opinion.

Both Merc and Audi on 19s. Regardless of wheel size, I drive in an environment where on a typical day I will cross maybe 50 to 60 speed humps. The Audi has stiffer suspension damping in Comfort than the Merc in Sport+. The oscillations of the suspension of the Merc in Comfort is ridiculous, and only begins to become controlled in Sport+.

Are they different? I would be surprised if they were.

I had a 17 for 2 years before selling it and buying a 2019. I think the step up was well worth it for a lot of reasons. The suspension is definitely smoother especially in comfort. Now it’s still a sport tuned suspension so it’s on the stiff side regardless compared to a regular c300. But I can definitely feel the difference. The tech upgrade is huge and I love my new interior a lot more. I decided not to get piano black this time around and I have saddle brown leather now which makes me love the interior a lot more vs the old but that aside, the new infotainment, car play, android auto and the digital dash is stellar and makes the car feel a little more future proof to enjoy for 4 years or so before cycling out to something else.

The exhaust note I feel is a bit deeper and louder when you get on the throttle. For me there is no contest especially at this time get the 2019. I can definitely feel the power bump in the high end and the power delivery is smoother which I actually quite enjoy. You can play with the throttle a lot now to make it drive like an old man car or really get aggressive. I am a techy so for me having mercedesme and tons of telemetry data is always attractive.

Is this a fact or could be something related to drive perceptive? Couldn't find anything stating this change.

All the press statements and reviews I've read, state that the facelift has different suspension settings.
Everyone gives the opinion it's alot more comfortable and the damping better controlled.
