Which Winter Tire Size for Staggered Wheels?

I have a ‘15 C300 4M Sport with :
225/45/18, 7.5 j Et 44 - front
245/40/18, 8.5 j Et 49- rear

I am in the market for snow/winter tires for my staggered wheels. I have read a few threads on this but all of them are over a few years old. Some members say to stay with the original sizes. A couple other members say they run 225/45 front and back with the staggered wheels. Can this damage the 4Matic?Any issues running the same size all around for those of you that have been doing it for a while? Or should I stick to the original sizes? Thanks for your time.

The Mercedes Canada provided winter/wheel package I bought in February of this year for my C43 has 225/45 all around on the staggered rim sizes. This puts a "stretch" on the rear tires but there were no issues with the 4MATIC during the couple of months it had to contend with snow.

Stick to the staggered sizes. My winters are 225/40-19 front and 255/35-19 rear. Just contact your tire guy and ask for the dimensions, if they can’t manage that, find someone else.

Mercedes Canada recommends 225/45/18 on all four corners for your car using the OE wheels. I expect the recommendation would be the same for the U.S. Sure, you could run 245/40 on the rears but you'd lose the ability to rotate the tires. In addition, a little narrower tread width on the primary drive wheels provides better traction. If a "square" setup didn't work on the OE wheels and with 4MATIC, Mercedes wouldn't specify it on their site for so many vehicles. (NOTE: These prices are in Canadian $.)
