Moisture freezing around sunroof seal and cracking/popping

Summary:

- In December, drove the car in heavy snow.

- Parked car in warm garage overnight.

- Drove in cold, dry conditions the next day.

- Residual moisture left on roof froze around the sunroof seal, resulting in loud creaking, cracking, and popping noises on the roof that could be heard from the cabin when driving. Happened on 2 separate occasions.

I've lived through dozens of Indiana winters and have never once noticed this issue before on any other cars, except my C43. Have had the C43 for 2 winters, and this behavior is "new." Anybody else in a similar climate ever notice this?

Note: This car has had a myriad of issues, and I have the option of exiting the vehicle at no cost (so long as I purchase/lease a new Mercedes), or ride it out for for another year and leave the brand. If this sunroof issue is a "unique" issue, I don't think I can take this car anymore lol.

I haven't noticed it from my pano roof, but I often note this sort of noise from my trunk lid, and occasionally from the hood. The hood noise is the worst, as no matter how much I lube the bumpers and weatherstripping, as long as it is cold out (I'm near Chicago. . . of course it gets cold) the hood creaks like an old beater. I just figure that when I finally sell the car, it will have to be in the warm weather months.

So you're dealing with the noise when there's no frozen precipitation around the seals/rubber weatherstripping?

My roof only acts up when there are little strands and ribbons of ice freezing around the weatherstripping in 2 locations: where the top of the windshield meets the roof and the periphery of the sunroof.

I mean, I see the logic of how that situation could produce noise, but because I've never noticed it with any other car, I'm leaning toward the noise being an unwanted anomaly, as this should be a problem that is accounted for when designing/engineering/testing the car.

Maybe the seals are dirty/gritty. Try wiping them down with a mild cleaner and then applying a silicone spray or Gummi Pflege.

Thanks for the tip. It's probably pretty dirty/gritty, as I haven't washed the car since July (I think). It spent a month in the dealership from September to October. After it got back, it was so filthy and they had completely trampled the pristine floor mats with mud and dust (dealership was under renovation), I pretty much just stopped caring about it.

All that said, to clarify, my issue only appears when precipitation freezes at the aforementioned locations, and I have the regular sunroof, not the pano roof.
