PS4 vs PS4S tires

Anyone have any opinions on the PS4 vs PS4S tires? Are these the same? Is the PS4 or PS4S the ones everyone suggests getting?

PS4 has been around quite a long time now. PS4S is the latest/current model.

No, as said they are not the same tires. The PS4 is the successor to the PS3, while the PS4S is the successor to the Pilot Super Sport. They are positioned for different types of vehicles and sizes. You might find the following video helpful. The PS4S is the one that everybody is talking about. It's currently pretty much the best street performance tire if you want to get most out of your car, but the PS4 is no slouch.

The interesting thing is that Michellin rates the PS4S as like a 3/5 for road-noise, yet everyone says it's so much better than their stock run-flats. Can someone explain that to me?

These ratings can only be looked at within the Michelin family itself. 3/5 has no meaning compared to another brand. It only has a meaning compared to other Michelin tires. A 5/5 will be one of their touring tires, so a UHP tire will obviously be noisier than a touring tire. Same goes for the tire wear ratings. There are no overall noise and tire wear standards. They are all relative to other tires of the same manufacturer.
