Extended Warranty

Hey guys I had a warranty question. I was wondering do all Mercedes come with a warranty when purchased up to a certain km? The reason I ask if because I am purchasing an extended warranty for my 18’ c43. The thing is , it cost me 3950.00 and it says it covers the vehicle for 36 months, or up to 60,000 km(whichever comes first) vehicle has 29,000km on it. Now if Mercedes covers the vehicle under warranty until a certain km, which I thought was standard for every new car purchased , would this be me throwing 4K away when it’s already under mb warranty? I’m a little confused. If anyone can clarify, Thanks in advance.

In Canada, original warranty is 4yrs/80,000kms which ever comes first. If you are buying CPO from benz dealer, CPO warranty is additional on top of original warranty for engine, transmission for 2yrs/40k on top.

If you are getting from a non Benz dealer, that's alot for only 3 years.

ah man. I screwed up and signed the contract before even looking at the fine prints.. Impulsive as always just itching to get my new car.. will now cost me 4K. Ya, it’s a non Benz dealer . The bill of sale says “extended warranty” through global warranty. Now I’m thinking why in the world did I just pay 4K for a warranty when mb warranty is good until 80,000 km. I feel like I got hustled here.

If you haven't took the delivery, you can try bringing up this issue and cancelling the additional warranty.

If you are in Quebec, you do have few days of cool off period.

Other provinces, you just got to try to get that off from your bill.

ya, I’m in Ontario. Problem is I have already signed the contract with this bogus extended warranty on it. It’s my own fault, should actually thoroughly examine things before signing. It’s my first mb and only after the fact realized wait a minute, this should come with a warranty from the dealership already. Lol

Tell them your having financial hardships or make something up and ask them nicely to remove it for you. Reference OMVIC and tell them you have the right(? I dunno go read OMVIC website) to remove additional add-ons within 30days.

ok great, I will. You’re right maybe if I just ask politely to take it off they just might with all things considering going on with the world right now. Thanks for your help and advice! I appreciate it.

Like mentioned above, if you bought this within the last couple of days, most likely there is a cool off period where you can ask for a refund within the first 3 days or so. It would also be in the fine print.

yeah, it has been around 9 days since I signed the contract unfortunately. I have reached out to the dealer for an explanation on the extended warranty. It just doesn’t make sense to me that if mb warranty is 4 years or 80,000km, Why I would pay an extra 4K for a third party warranty that lasts only until 60,000 km. 😑 I just don’t see any logic in this and not sure why it wasn’t explained to me as it’s the first time I am buying a MB. Feel like it was unethical but maybe there is an explanation...

There is no cool off period in Ontario unfortunately.

Just need to be aggressive after they say no. Copy ethical and all that and tell them you will file an complaint against him/dealer to OMVIC if this doesn't get resolved. For them, it's not worth a negative against them for bull**** fee tacted on the bill. Every salesperson need to be registered in OMVIC so it will be harder for him to renew if he has too many complains.

If you are able, try to use the advertise price + hst needs to be exactly as what you need to be charged.

thanks. Yes I’m curious to see his reply on why the extra warranty was added on to be honest, when it’s 20,000 km less than mb and have to pay more for it. Doesn’t make any sense to me. The problem is the contract says once signed, the contract is final and binding. That’s my only issue is he can say , “well you signed it already so it’s final”. Either way, I’ll see what he says soon. Thanks for the help everyone.

Most third party warranty contacts in the US allow for termination of the contract and a pro-rated refund of the remaining value. You won't get 100% back but you can usually get most. In fact, I've never seen one without this clause.

So I did get off the phone with the dealership. This warranty will start after the 80,000km. So it will cover me until 140,000km. I guess it’s ok for resale because I will sell the car before the 80,000km Is up and at least the new owner will have an extra 60,000km.

highly doubt you can recover if any of $4k when you sell your car. Most it will do is give the buyer extra confidence to buy your car then another.

that’s exactly it. I’m not looking to gain any extra value when I sell it, it’ll just give peace of mind to the buyer.

Cancel it. Aftermarket car warranties are notorious for going out of business and you lose your coverage. A lot of them have big deductibles and even caps on the money for repairs. Did you finance it in with the car or pay separate with a credit car? If credit card tell them to refund you or if not call credit card company and put in a chargeback request. After that they will refund you. If you have not taken delivery yet; tell dealer to take it off. It’s to much money for you in the payment or refuse the car.
