Are you tuned? I have dual exhaust with an X-pipe where the resonator goes, I'm wondering if my car would be louder if I do this mod to my C43 mufflers? Any drive by videos or videos of you standing next to it?

FYI - I have a set of C63s mufflers and an H-pipe (will sell seperate) for sale if anyone is interested in doing this mod - PM me.

Yes tuned with AMR rv3.1 and also their TCU tune.

I don't currently have any drive by videos but I'm planning to make one when I have time to get someone to record it with me. If you do the semi straight pipe mod to the mufflers it will for sure make it a little bit louder and deeper. It was worth it to me since I wanted to maximize the sound profile without having drone. But I'm also not a fan of most of the aftermarket exhausts. Albeit I haven't heard them in person just the YouTube videos.

I believe that I could've gone without the resonator and still have no drone, while further improving sound a bit. The pe resonator is nearly a straight pipe with very little perforations for the exhaust to expand into.

I have the AMR street burble tune, I think it should sound good with this mod.

Sent you a PM.

Finally made a video of the sound using a gopro in case anyone was interested. I thought it would be better than a drive by video

Shorter version with just WOT sport+

It sounds better with this mod! Thank you for the video, definitely on my to do list. You still have a resonator on the car? I think I saw that comment on one of your other videos on your YouTube channel.

Yep I have the resonator from the C43 Performance Exhaust. I've considered to remove it and try how it sounds later on some day.

Not sure if you've seen the inside of the PE resonator but there's only one small roughly half inch wide area on each pipe that expands the sound into the fiberglass packing. It doesn't appear do too much deadening of sound, but perhaps helps with the tone. I remember seeing a few guys do a resonator delete on their C43 and saying it didn't make too much difference.

I was asking because I don’t have a resonator. Only the dual pipes with X pipe and the 43 mufflers. I’m assuming that mine may sound a bit more raspy without it!

thanks for the follow up. This really helps!

Hello, I plan on doing this exact mod on my car Sometime next week hopefully and was wondering if you guys recommend doing a res delete and putting a x pipe in place. I also hace a c450 so not sure I can source a pe resonator. Are you guys still happy with the way it has been sounding?

seems like the oem muffler has a built in hemholtz resonator chamber built into the muffler casing. this allows the nasty, drone type buzzing sound and bass around 2k-2500 rpm to expand and cancel it.

The exhaust is deeper, and maybe about *EDIT:10-20% louder, roughly (relative to RPM vs before). A slightly subtle yet very welcome change. No noticeable drone was introduced and freeway driving in comfort is still quiet. I can now hear more exhaust at low RPM driving in sports+ (EDIT: and comfort) and that's exactly what I was hoping for. I can only imagine what it's like paired with a resonator delete. For now I'm sticking with this since I don't want to be waking up my baby when driving her in the C450.

The guy at the shop reused the existing outlet pipe that was cut off (not the pipe with holes). He realized it was a perfect fit when he rotated it around.

I recommend headphones to hear the change, it's subtle and the sound of capturing it on camera isn't quite as noticeable as hearing it in person.

Did you leave the fiberglass stuffing out or put it back in?

And do you have any idea on how the shop re-welded the casing? I found a shop but he says he doesn’t want to do it because he has a concern on how to weld the shell back together.

The shop I took it to already had done this type of mod before, the only comment the guy made to be was that it's just a bit more difficult to weld the casing of the mufflers. Something to do with the type of metal is made from. Otherwise it was just a matter of time.

Positive review

Well i just did yesterday that muffler mod 🙂 its amazing! Just as others said.. a little more bassy tone, 10-20% louder. You can hear the car in comfort cruising in lower rpms (didnt before).
From outside it sounded silenced before mod.. couldnt tell if its an amg, if you heard him from outside cruising.. well, now you can 🙂 pops are louder! Not too loud but louder. As they should be.
the car should be like that stock.. i have c43 facelift 2019 with opf. And i am very satisfied with that mod. Before that mod i made custom rear muffler.. to bassy in low rpms and drone from 1500 till 3000rpm. Now its perfect.. and no drone 🙂
thanks!

If you gut the opfs (make a square cutout from the top of the opf can, gut all the material out and reweld) you won't be able to see anything was done: p.
you will need opf delete plugs for the sensors.

Combine that with a half cat delete (with the half cat delete , only the pre sensor cat remains and there is no CEL) You get a ferocious monster!
There are 2 buddies of mine who have done this and it's the best sound from a non-PE exhaust

Hi Guys, appreciate this detailed thread! I have a standard euro opf w205 c43 with PE. I’m trying to work out if there anything I can do to further increase the volume of my car without ruining the sound or losing the valve control? I don’t fully understand the system, but it seems I don’t have any options as I already have the asr module so am already fully bypassing the muffler in valve open mode? Is that correct?

is there anything else I can do?

many Thanks!
