MB Spare donut tire

Has anyone with a 2020 Base sedan with 19" staggered set up use this spare tire in an emergency and if it fits the 19"?

I recently got a flat tire at 1am and when I called the tow truck, the operator told me it would take another 1.5 to 2 hrs for the tow truck to arrive which would be around 2 to 3 am. I was able to drive for 10 miles (I have run flats) to a well lit gas station but could not drive another 15 miles to get home because I could feel that I might damage the wheel if keep going. So I asked the guy at the gas station to allow me to leave the car there overnight and ubered home since I did not want to be on the street at 2 - 3 am in the morning (being a female and with all the crimes that have been going on in Los Angeles). Had I have a spare, it would have allowed me to drive another 15 miles home safely and dealt with it in the morning.

Thanks.

Christine

Do NOT buy this donut, it is 17" and will not clear the brakes let alone for a C63s!

Also, for the price, you could just buy a replica wheel that can actually be swapped interchangeably although it probably wouldn't fit in the spare tire bay. Try keeping a pump and patch kit in the car instead.

Note the OEM runflats can go up to something like 80km/50mi under certain speeds IIRC. So if you had turned your hazards on, you probably would have been able to crawl home.

Can't speak for the donut. They claim it fits the C43 and even the C63, but highly doubt it. As said, the main issue with donuts is clearing the brakes. Below is a link to some good information about the MOE tires used on MBs. Contrary to popular believes they are not technically run flats unless they are dual-branded, but yes with a partially loaded car they are good for 50 miles, and 20 miles with a fully loaded car. Both up to 50 mph.

Respect for knowing how to change a wheel, but to do it you'd also have to carry a jack and tools. It would all take up trunk space and has to be properly secured so it doesn't fly and slide around, or does the C43 actually have an unused spare tire well? I don't have one in my C63S coupe. A better option would be to carry the TIREFIT kit from the C63. Since the C63 doesn't have MOE tires, it comes with the TIREFIT kit. It contains a compressor and a can of tire sealant. That would be a much better option at 1am to patch the tire and inflate it.

I use non runflats on my car and carry Griots version of that MB inflater kit. Hope I never need it, but I have also been considering buying a spare from Modernspare.com. Really nice package and only 6 inches wide. Comes, if you chose, with jack and everything needed . I think for longer road trips it makes sense. I worry about being in some remote area with nobody around carrying MB size ( or type ) tire. Also I hate waiting around. I have read of runflats blowing out a sidewall and then a spare is only option. Wouldn’t matter a whole lot in my normal routine, but like I said, I worry more about trips.

With cars that have large brakes, the donut spares often only fit the rear. If you have a flat on the front, you must move a rear wheel to the front and put the donut on the rear. I've had to do that with a Camaro that had staggered 20" wheels/tires and it's more time consuming to change a front flat- but it beats leaving the car on the side of the road or waiting hours for help. I also carried a plug and sealant kit- but some flats can't be fixed that way.

Thanks so much for all the advices and responses. Here is the response from the Mercedes OEM parts. Apparently they have been getting law suit for these donut spares flying around with no way to secure it. I think I will get the tire fit kit as many has advised.

It's easy enough to build your own "fit kit". Stop by Walmart for a Slime pump and Slime slime, and maybe a Slime string plug kit while you're there.

true but the Griots kit comes in a neat little carry case. Just easier.
