Talking This is what I want to have from the 2007 C63 AMG

Just read Feb issue Mercedes enthusiast:
" Standard specification on the S65 AMG will include......the new AMG main menu with Racetimer, which enables drivers to calculate lap times for the first time in an AMG model. It stores and fastest lap time, the top speed, the average speed and the lap distance. It is one of several interior features that Mercedes hopes will reflect the car's sporty character, The intergrated custom AMG main menu shows the gear currently in use and advises when to change gear......."

They have those in the 997's
We need a clutch in the S65 not a ECU that tells people when to shift.

SO lets sum this up.
We want to be "Sporty" so lets ad a lap timer.
At the same time let's ad an Auto that reminds you when to shift

I don't have a problem with it. The people who are only spirited-enthusiast can get the fun of racing, but they don't have to dedicate a large part of their time to learning to drive 'right' (practice, lessons, mad-tight cup modz yo, etc...). For those of us who want to drive 'right' we still can, they are just missing out on a thrill that more pure 'drivers' experience at every chicane. *shrug* I'm glad more people are able to enjoy the sport.

At a more base level though, don't you think that something like a G-Tech is a great tool for someone no matter what car they have? I think I see it as an innovation and just one more luxury-notch in Mercedes bed-post. I don't think they're saying 'we have a lap-timer therefore this is a race-car" I think they're saying "When you want it to...this can be a race-car, so we put in a lap-timer - and oh yeah...almost forgot...400-600hp."

What works for me, and for a lot of people in similar circumstances, is the way you can basically turn on and off the sports-car inside - that's why they call it Clark Kent. For instance, the speedshift tranny is beautiful. Mild-mannered when I'm tooling around town or caught in a snow storm, but when I get on it hard coming out of corners and hard braking, it's a completely different car - aggressive, confident, and willing. It seems to assume that I'm going to do something involving hard braking, down-shifting, *****-out acceleration...and then...I go behind a building and emerge on the other side in my 3-piece suit never missing a step in my stride.

Believe me, I want a pcar. I would love to have the gt3 as my daily driver - it's Lex Luthor - but I just can't. I have to pickup 2 kids at school, take out clients and colleagues, go to bars with a few friends, and maybe take the whole family on a road-trip.

I wanna C63 with a clutch and LSD!!!!!!!!
I love hearing my LSD click away..it is Lex Luthor.
AMG cars are for power and Lux, but far from a sports car.
More Like German Hot Rods.

Where is the C63 mentioned ?

Besides this being an AMG menu it remains to be seen that it cant be installed in any cluster with the right kind of diagnostic.

I'm surprised that there is debate over manual transmission vs. the MB automatic in this community.

Sure, the conventional car media insists on manuals for "enthusiasts."

But, given that 0-60 times for most manual cars assume professional driving skills that most people lack, F1 cars aren't really manuals anyway and MB's transmissions are so sophisticated, it doesn't make sense to me.

In my opinion, kudos to MB for making trannys that are flat out superior, regardless of what Car & Driver tells us we're supposed to like.

We'll some of us "Old School" MB Enthusiasts are sick of cars with no clutches.
I am not that old school, but my FIRST BENZ EVER was.
The first 6 speed manual C240 in So Cal, back in 2001.
Now that was cool. Ad blower and go, but still lacked power.
I jumped to the C32, power galore but alas the 3rd pedal was gone.
Then I got a C230 Sedan and hoped to mod it, but it was way too slow.
All the time I had a ML500 Inspiration as well.
The what really staretd to bum me was the amount of MB's on the road. Every one has a freaking C,CL S class. I felt like I was in some ghey wannabe OC club.
So I was Immmersed in the brand, but the light at the end of the tunnel was grim. So as Benz cuts jobs, they just lost a guy who purchased 4 benzes inas many years. That's not good, but I bet they could give a flying rats ***.
Porsche is KISSING MY *** RIGHT NOW GUYS, treating me like a King.
Very exclusive treatment and they understand the customer.
Any car with power had an Auto.
Just think if the SLK55 had a Manual.
Benz could of bragged about a real sports car.
Now its just a ***** wagon?
I went to an IWC/CLS55 AMG Launch Party.
At the party I met the DTMCLKAMG builder and master mech standing next to his DTM Car.
Actually I was on my back peeping under the ropes trying to get a look at the suspension and the drop. I heard above me in a thick German accent "3 Inches" I poped up and said, "Wow just like my GT3 with the Cup Settings" and this guy gushed and started to talk about how sick the GT3 was and forgot all about the CLK.
I found that pretty funny.
The thing is this.
AMG is for Lux and Autobahn terror. Period.
Hit a corner and die.
After all the work on my AMG I coule NEVER hit a corner like I can in the GT3.
I would die.
After a couple years in the GT3 I might long for a ball holding auto, but for now.
**** that.

All of my supercars, track cars, and exotics which have F1 style auto-selectable gear boxes in them shift faster than any human short of an F1 driver shifting an F1 gearbox could...end of story?

Do you frequent Porsche boards now that you have one?

Vader, you make some good points but you have to remember that there are a lot of people out there who are somewhat restricted in their car purchases due to family situations (i.e. car seats for kids,luggage..etc) or,in my case job situation.

I see a lot of clients during the business day at various locations and there is no way I could pull up in a porsche or similar. They would get some serious doubts in their minds as to how much we are charging them

An understated, while still luxurious, fun to drive and powerful car such as an AMG is the perfect car for my needs.

On the flip side, showing up in a pcar shows you are serious and successful at what you do.

The AMGBenz's is great if you need to have a race/family/work car.
I agree and If my situation gets to be like that I will be rolling in a S65.

No, I had not noticed. Then why did it appear among all the new threads???

Regardless, I still do not understand MB's refusal to make a high performance car with a manual transmission.
