Isnt the whole point of c55/c63 is to live in a city with traffic and race between sets of lights, what with the auto gearbox.

And doing so keeps the engine/tranni adaptation from degrading to "grandpa mode"! (MB be damned for thrusting adaptation onto us all!!!)

The reason I ask this question is because lately I am becoming less and less excited about owning a fast car. When I moved to the downtown area a little over 2 years ago the traffic wasn't that bad. However, things have changed and traffic is almost completely unavoidable at just about all hours of the day no matter what day of the week it may be. That being said, what fun is a C55 or better yet a C63?? I'm constantly stuck in traffic and I never ever get to really have some fun with this fine german beast. My lease will be up in May which is right around when the C63 will be out... Why would I waste all that money on a car that can do the quarter somewhere in the 12s when all my driving is done in bumper to bumper traffic???? Seems really hard to justify and might find myself in a Lexus...

I forgot to mention too... My C55 is almost 3 years old and is used as a daily driver. The ODO currently sits at 19xxx miles... The first year of ownership was in the suburbs too where I put on 1/2 of those miles.

Can someone please slap some sense into me? All the good press about the C63 has me considering moving back out to the suburbs! I love living downtown though!!! I can't. I won't!
Chicago here (actually inner ring suburb). My C32's average MPH over the last 1,000 miles? 24. Three years ago on my E36 M3 it was 28. So either I'm getting old and slow or there's more and more congestion. I tend to like to believe the latter.

Still, wouldn't change a thing. I still love my C32.

I had to pick up my friend from O'Hare and then drop her off again yesterday, my gawd, traffic was terrible. I saw a M5 stuck in there with me too!

All those horses in the stable, and no where to go...

I'm not even sure if he got me on radar because my V1 was in the S2K and I thought I was going a bit faster than 45 so I didn't say anything. I also lit up the tires really good which he chose not to ticket me for either.

I actually went to court instead of just paying the ticket and the cop didn't show so I guess I got out of it. Regardless, they do ticket for speeding in Chicago.

By my house (northside of the city) they actually hide behind buildings and blind spots with radar guns in hand. I'm new to this specific area (came from the Bucktown area) but the speed limit is 25 mph down this stretch of road. There's also a school nearby so I'm guessing they've had issues in the past. These stakeouts would usually consist of 3-4 cops in their own seperate cars nailing people left and right. It's a common site to see all of them at different spots along the street writing tickets at the same time. You'd think people would catch on?!

FWIW, this speed trap is along Milwaukee Ave just south of Irving Park Rd.

I didn't mean that there is zero speed enforcement, but it is pretty low. There are the obvious Ka guys on LSD, and occasionally there are CPD guys with laser guns. The Ka is easy to pick up on LSD (they don't hide), and LPP/AL8 takes care of laser. I think CPD is mainly looking for other stuff. The low enforcement was VERY noticeable after living in other areas. I've been in Chicago for two years and have yet to have an issue <crosses fingers>. I've been lucky and haven't seen any speed traps that were not picked up by the V1.

If you lite up your tires in front of a cop, there's a pretty good chance you're going to get pulled over anywhere.

On the other hand, the suburbs . . . man there are cops looking for speeders everywhere.

What kills me way more than the speed limits is the condtion of the roads. I can't got 100 feet without just nailing some huge bump, hole, rim, metal cover, manhole, etc, etc, etc....

Isn't that the worst? You might have to align the wheels every 3 months.

Yes. The salt here just destroys our roads!

I just got back from North Carolina and every road was perfect.

I agree with the Pothole hater. A friend has a c55 in LA and lives less than a couple of miles from work it's just the romping machine to beat on. I live in DT SD and do the same. I have considered the fact that I don't need anything really car wise but.... I also made my 911 a track only car and drove it on the street

My road conditions are not perfect in the least DT SD is torn up terribly. Out on the freeways or in the canyons is another matter. BH in LA is fine where my friend lives.

SLC 63 amg built by HWA is proposed to have 700 hp NASP

The new SLC, somewhere between sl and slr, is proposed to have a 700 hp nasp 6.3 liter. It's possible is they follow BMW and Porsche and adopt a lower stroke and bigger bore as well as lighter titanium valve materials. There are also rumors of a twin turbo model as well, with a few more horsies. It is going to be built by HWA. All this info was presented in the september issue of Road and Track.

HWA is the organization that the founder of amg founded at the time AMG was bought by mercedes a couple of years ago. He still has 40 percent stock in amg. HWA makes the CLK DTM and Street bound CLK GTR as well as the Merc DTM race car that is currently used.

The SLC will still have an AMG badge for brand/marketing purposes.

So maybe they will have around 590 or 600 hp in the E class and up?
