I wouldn't count BMW out of the 4 door compact supercar race just yet!
However, with so many M3 orders being lost to the 135i, maybe the C63 AMG might get some competition from the 135i.

2006 C55 AMG, 2.8L Quattro, Softail Nostalgia 1550 (Stage III), Sporster (slammed)
From the article link: "... The M3 Saloon can go from zero to 62mph in 4.9 seconds, only 0.1 seconds slower than the M3 Coupé, with a top speed of 155mph...." This is very disappointing and unimpressive if it's true for such a high end and talked about car. These are C55 numbers at best. I think it has a lot more in it than that. It better!

The new M3 will be DEFINITELY faster than the E46 M3 and W203 C55 in every way.

Yeah, agreed. I've been accused elsewhere of mag racing but I've read at least 2 reviews each that put the new M3 and the C63 in the (traction limited) 4.5 range. I do like the technology in the new Bimmer (and the 135i for that matter), but I am a sucker for big cubes and monster torque. I'd take the C63 first (since we're not talking about the CLK63 Black here). And although I am seeing 4.8's stock on my C55, I know it's more of a traction limitation for the M3 and C63 and from a roll they would both romp on my M113 E55 motor. When I jumped on the C55 I was also looking at one of the (very few) used 335i sedans and while they are probably similar in E/Ts, the more-torque-than-horsepower and bigger N/A motor in the MB did it for me. Plus it had way fewer miles and was $6K less.

I should say 6.3 engine and crazy hot exterior make new C63 headturner, and about the interior, AMG6.3 engine is like a 10kg can of black caviar on a diner tabel you cant think anything about else when you see it
but anyway the interior is crap
For me take M3 interior and install it to C63 and you will have an ideal car![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)

400 ft lbs seems a tad high. The new M3 has less than 300 and my M6 has less than 400.
I think it might be 300, which is still incredible for a small Bimmer.

400lb torque ??? are you mixing up your Euro Nm vs TQ?
with a procede 1.47 or v2 YES!
not stock.
the 3L TT is putting down 275+ RWHP and about 280+RWTQ on average.. so its easily putting down around 320hp/325TQ
with procede, AA exede.. its making nice gains.. but traps are not as high as you would think.
They are quick.. but traps speeds have yet broken the 110 here in the states, on a official time slip and official 1/4 track.
The 135 will be a bit faster than the 335 coupe or sedan and it will probably be the next "track car" for many enthusiasts...
but let's not compare a 135 to a C63..
we all can take a CRX and modded to run 10's.. or an SRT-4 or GTO, or Mustand ... ect.. ect
that type of logic is really poor at best..
We all want the most bang for the buck.. but at the same time we can't compare to different product types.
M, C63, RS4, CTS-V are in the same product type
135, Mazda Speed3, STI, Evo, SRT-4, Mini S are on another..

The 1 series looks pretty cool, except for the styling which makes the car look heavy and the wheels too small. ..again, like the 5 series.
Problem with the M3 saloon, still looks like a Mitsubishi Carisma from the back. The M3 coupe looks like an Audi.
The new M3 will not age well. The front looks too plasticky and will look tired in years to come.
The M3 needs the nose off the 5 series, that is a seriously good looking front end.
Regards
Andy

I like the idea of 1 series, powerful engine married a small chase. However, the couple style looks really goofy especially after the B-pillin.
M3 and C63 are totally different level of 1 series. 1 series is more like a kid car in front of those two.
However, back to the topic, C63 has much better style then M3 saden. My point of view, MB and BMW have very different typle of buyer. For some reason, I always think MB ages much better than BMW.

Now, realize that I'm currently sitting in a CTS-V on a daily basis and you can probably understand why I don't think the C-class interior is cheap-looking.

It looks like just an ordinary 335 with 4 pipes. I guess its the rear tailights which are very odd to begin.
The C63, from the front, side and rear you will notice a big difference from your C350 with AMG package to the real "deal"
But I like the 4 door option, and it will be a nice machine.
4 door, v8 and hopefully DSG soon, it would be a nice practical car with performance of a sports car.

You're right, I saw 400 on the spec sheet for torque but it was Nm not ft-lbs. It's rated at 295 ft-lbs @ 1300 rpm. Sorry.

Those acceleration numbers are factory numbers, which are always conservative. Just to give you some perspective, both the E46 M3 and W203 C55 had a 0-100km/h (62mph) time of 5.2 seconds from the factory.
The new M3 will be DEFINITELY faster than the E46 M3 and W203 C55 in every way.

I would wait to see what the M3 does at the track.

Personally, the number of 0-60mile or 1/4 miles mean nothing to me. How I feel when I am driving the car is the only I care about. 0.2 sec. faster or slower does not mean you can take the other car on the street. How the car act in real life and reliability over period of the time are also important?
Bottle line, are you a MB or BMW person?

Handling C63 vs M3 Saloon
It will be interesting to see which car handles better. Both my AMG's are runners but not nearly as balanced in the turns as my M-3. Hopefully MBZ will get the handling on the C63 right this time and the M-3 won't get softer as it has every year.
