Mind elaborating on how you find the S5 "slow"?

I think that mid to low 13's is slow for that class of car.
S4, RS4, S5, S6, S8 are generally slowest cars in class. We have argued about this before... I love audi, just not the performance side...

With the others you listed you may have a point but I'd love to see you try chasing an RS4 up a mountain pass.

Why just mountain pass? To make it fair, I'd love to see the RS4 try chasing Tommy's car on a trip across the country, coast to coast LA to NY.

I think in this class (luxo-rocket), the road course is the proper measure - and more specifically the Germans seem to have settled on the Ring.

7:58 --- 156.652 km/h -- Audi RS4 4.2 V8 FSI, 420 PS/ 1650 kg, Frank Stippler, (10/05) http://www.8200rpm.com/forum/read.ph...16841&t=16841\

Does anyone have a W211 E55 number?

Yes...an A3 or A4 with 2 doors. You do realize that there is a 2 door version of the A3 in Europe and there has been a 2 door Cabriolet A4 since 2001 (Europe and US). So how exactly is the A5/S5 a two door version of either the A3 or A4?

Let's also not forget to mention the A5/S5 is an entirely new chassis. Not an A4 with 2 doors as idiot of the week already tried to sell.

Audi A8L 4.2 - LX470
I also test drove a S5 3 weeks ago, and I found it to be the perfect balance between comfort and performance. It's much more visually appealing the 335i and from most accounts it outperforms the 335i. I saw the comparison between the 335i and the S5 on Fifth Gear as well and it was pretty obvious which car she felt more comfortable driving at the limit (335i). She didn't look capable of properly operating the S5 at the limit out of the turns imho. I've read test that put the S5's 0-60km times as high as 5.1sec, and as low as 4.5sec. Yes it's true the 335i has won the majority of the comparisons, but from all accounts the reason was price, and price alone!!

You should've challenged me back about coast to coast trip RS4 vs E55 by saying "In the winter"

I'm in the same boat as I've mentioned several times. Pretty much down to the C63 vs. S5 for me. The main wildcard is price. $70k for a C63 w/LSD is a very likely scenario and the RS5 isn't likely to hit until late '08 or '09. Both have pluses and minuses, but in the end it comes down to price for me. If I can get a LSD C63 for $65k then I'm game. Otherwise, the S5 is looking mighty good.

E500, 3000GT and 3000GT VR-4, 335i
MSRP is about $51K to $55K from what I've read.

If you customize an S5 on Audi's website, you can apparently get one fully loaded (tech. package, Bang & Olufsen system, etc) for about $57K. That included pearl effect paint.

The Mercedes-Benz brand itself probably is worth about 10K. So actually the value of the physical car is 60K, loaded. A bargain for what you're getting

a few words..

if the S5 had turbos.. it would be a hot topic

The S5 blows the 335 hands down, except in mods availabe.

If one doesn't care about power.. the V8 is pretty good for 99% of your needs.

The bimmer boys will always say.. The S5 is over priced and slower than a Procede, Xede, JSB2, SSTT tuned N54. But stock vs Stock, the S5 traps higher.

Is the S5 eventually receives the 3L Biturbo.. which it should, it will be a tuners dream. Audi is known for Turbos and has more aftermarket Turbo support than BMW.

I'm thinking of gettng a 135 as my daily driver.. and parking the gaz guzzler E55 for the week-end rides with my family.

but this may put my plans on hold a bit.

if I had a choice between the E92 3L TT or Audi S5 3L TT.. I'll take the Audi.. even with the price difference of $6 to 8k and the extra Weight for AWD.

Btw: I'm sure the 3L TT will be lighter than the V8.. so the new S4 or S5 with 3L TT might be lighter than previous model.

The I6TT in the 335i is not significantly lighter than the V8 in the S4/S5.

Also, the latest rumor is that the next generation S4 will be supercharged not turbocharged. I for one think this would be a bad move given Audi's great experience with turbo units.

As regards the Vicki Butler Henderson clip, well that woman can drive. Just ask the abominable Jamiroquai (sp). However, it was not at all scientific and if anything showed the two cars to be exactly equal around a tight track.

So far word is a 3.0 TT to be put into the B8 S4.
