Dragtimes.com is hosting an image of a brand spanking new M3 sitting in an unidentified California dealer at Century West BMW in North Hollywood, CA with a window sticker displaying the car's $70,720 MSRP plus a $30,000 mark up.
The extra monies demanded by the dealer is labeled as a "Dealer Market Adjustment" on the window sticker, which makes it seem like a special options package with heated seats and an extra cup holder.
Rather, it's the reality that this dealer and many others know that someone out there will pay that much for a new 2008 BMW M3 Coupe.
But as good a sports car as it the new M3 undoubtedly is, would you pay over $100,000 for it?"
After California taxes are included, the car comes out to $109,000.

Remember these areas have neighborhoods where people will buy one at those prices just so they can say to their friends and neighbors. "I bought my kid one of those new BMWs and paid an extra $30,000 for it"!

There are parts of society that actually consider this a good thing. Beleive me I'm not complementing them for it. It's just fact.

If you ever get into a 335i, look at the little empty plastic dohickey slightly behind the driver's head in the middle...what's where it's supposed to go. Here's a pic...it's the off-colored red thing with the slits in it right in front of the rear interior lights.

There's no doubt that the car culture in CA and FL is more pronounced than other parts of the country. Paying a premium to be one of the first to own one is part of that but an extra $30k puts it into a different demographic. In all seriousness, if I was going to spend $100k for a performance car, an M3 wouldn't be on my list.
When the E46 M3 first came out people in FL were paying $15k premiums eventhough there was only one color available. I refused to pay a premium so I waited 6 months, ordered exactly what I wanted, and payed below MSRP.
Call them whatever you want. But there are people out there that will pay these premiums. Some people pay thousands of dollars for a purse!

As far as paying thousands for a purse, thats fine by me. Paying more for an M3 than an M5/6 isn't
