c63 markup

the first ones in -- at least around bh/LA are going to be marked up anywhere from 20-25k or more over their fully-loaded price.
to do otherwise would be stupid, because the past (and present, judging by the m3's) shows that there is no shortage of customers out there dumb enough to ante up the extra dough just for the dubious privilege of bragging rights.

I kind of doubt there will be heavy mark-ups. The waiting list at one of the two San Diego North County (a pretty affluent area) dealers is only 5 people deep.
My impression is that all the people on the list turned down the car (I did), considering they sent out an e-mail asking for somebody to step up and take cars from the first shipment.
This e-mail came out about 2 weeks after I got a call asking how I wanted to spec the car for my order. There was definitely enough time passed for them to run through the list asking the same question to all 'interested' parties.
Keep in mind that this is a dealer that does not charge over sticker (stated policy, confirmed by my own experienced buying a 'first off the boat' Audi S4 from their Audi dealer).
I don't think there's going to be a ton of demand for this car at this point...
In my case, I'm (at least) delaying buying the car for a several reasons:
- I'd prefer the '09, with the 030 package
- I'd really prefer a wagon, and want to wait a bit to see if it will come
- I don't even want to pay sticker price... The cars will be available soon enough at a discount (just look at almost any other AMG model)
- I'm still interested in seeing more head to head tests between the C63, M3, IS-F, CTS-V, etc. I want to do some of my own test drives, too.
- Finally, with many of the financial markets being recessed, there's just too many good investment opportunities to pass them up. At this point, I'd rather devote funds to investments, rather than toys.
Admittedly, there are many here with more disposable income that don't face these types of financial trade offs. I suspect there are many potential customers that echo one (or several) of those same ideas.
As a result, I don't know if the demand for these cars will be the same as say, if the car came out a year ago (between the RS4 and other more current M3, IS-F, in better financial times). Any price gouging should be localized and I would imagine, very temporary. Unless you are located in the middle of a metropolis, I think you are safe.

Markup?
There won't be a shortage of these cars like the Nissan GTR mine was ordered back in Feb and my dealer sent me the spec sheet and my price and I can guarantee I'm not paying over

I walked into my local dealer last week and they had no waiting list. Ordered mine at MSRP. This is in a part of the country that's definitely in the top 5 US cities for sales of the C63 target audience and it's competition (M3, RS4, etc).

Just got a call from my dealer who said he has a modifyable 09 that I can have for MSRP. (what a guy).
While I may take him up on it I cant help but wonder how may of these will be available, ala M3 which appear that they will be plentiful.
I am concerned a little about resale, but I also have other concerns:
Build quality in the interior.
Ride quality (with/without performance package).
I do however love the price point which appears to be under 60K.

Mercedes Benz of Naperville has 5 coming in between about April 15th and May 15th, the 1st 4 are sold and the 5th one is still available, the are selling it at MSRP. He says there is still time to change color and options, but not much time. They are expecting another 3-5 units 30-60 days after that. Contact James J at M-B Naperville if interested.
They are good people and a mod friendy dealership.

I'd be very surprised to see mark ups over MSRP given the weak economy, high fuel prices, and the level of competition out there (M3, IS-F, etc.). Plus, MB AMG products, fair or no, don't have a strong resale history. Egtgrant has the right idea -- just wait. The car is going to be produced for the next 3-4 years and will only improve with time. I plan to buy a '10 in 2012 when I get rid of my C32
