This maybe jumping the gun, as the C63 hasnt even hit the shores yet, however, if you are like me, a 60k car is pretty pricey if its just going to sit in the garage throughout the week. Im sure some of you are wondering this samething..... are the preowned C55 prices any indication of what someone can expect a two year old C63 price to be at? We all know how the AMGs take a hit, but im hoping a 1.5 - 2 year old C63 will be in the 40k range. Any thoughts?

I agree, Prices will drop pretty quickly as I "beleive" AMG will release a turbocharged 6.3 pretty soon after the C63 is released late this month/April at the latest.

They'll definitely be in the mid 40's 2 years after, mid to low 30's 3-4 years later.

I read somewhere where Merc was coming out with some forced injection motors as well. sorry cant quote it. but the above article on the horsepower war is interesting. it also makes alot of sense base on oil prices. however it would suck to have an AMG that did not have a unique motor from the rest of the Merc line.

Not sure I understand what you meant. AMG motors are already unique and different than the rest of Merc lineups. There are only a few different types: the 55, 63 and 65. Not sure if they’re still using the 55K or not. But they’re used exclusively on AMG models.

I saw it somewhere online. Someone said the 6.3 NA engine was a stepping stone for the upcoming Turbo 6.3. Do a search you might find it.

Yes you are correct... but i thought i read in the article you posted, that Merc may "in the future" not use different motors in the AMGs. maybe i read it wrong. i was multi tasking!

Thats what i remember reading as well. i also read the turbos were going to (obviously) raise the power but i ALSO thought it was going to allow for better gas mileage.

I am hoping that I can change the ECM to achieve 507 hp on the c63. With that said in the current green market, I think that this maybe the high mark in hp for years to come.

Thats what I believed as well. I've read about that article somewhere, and I might have said that in one of my posts. Maybe it was just a rumor, or maybe AMG decided to take a different route. I'm quite happy that they decided to retreat from horsepower war for a while. There are other aspects that AMG is lacking. I personally believe that the 65 engine is already remarkable, now they just need to find a way to reduce the weight, improve the handling, and you'll get one hell of a performance car.

i may be wrong but if im not mistaken before the 55 Kompressors came out AMG had natural aspirated 55 engines (which are the 55 NA engines, before it became Artificially Aspirated) on: S/CL/E 01-02 (and still being used on the SLK till today)

if history would repeat itself they will continue this "method" for this (obviously) and possibly next year, then from '09 and/or '10 models they will start to add bi-turbos to the 63s on their flagship models S/SL/CL (CLS/E ?) and probably just up HP/TQ on the NA 63 on the SLK/CLK/C, since they have room to grow anyway. If you compare the HP/TQ on a CL vs. CLK you will see its the same engine just lower figures for the CLK (for obvious reasons this is done)

just my few cents, anyone beg to differ, proof?

then as you said, came out with the C/SLK/CLK 55


oh i also forget, they had same engines (slightly detuned for obvious reasons) on the CLK55 and E55 too, before they SC the E and just kinda upgraded the CLK.

ALL amg cars have horrific, dismal, "WTF-just-hit-me", "u-gotta-be-kidding-me", "ZOMG-i-got-*****slapped-twice" resale value. C63 is no exception.

in 2 yrs, u can pick up a used C63 for dirt cheap. meanwhile, if u need a car now, buy a used w211 e55 for dirt cheap and enjoy for 2 yrs!

Jaysus there is so much mis- and disinformation in this thread I almost feel like I'm going to get the plague for posting here. Let me make a few points:

1. Yes merc is releasing a turbocharged V8 to compete with BMW's turbocharged V8, but no announcement has been made for an AMG model, this is for stable cars and will likely be a 5 liter or smaller.

2. Mercedes has emphatically stated that they are DONE with the horsepower war. There will not be a TT63. Sorry. Yes it was on the table at one point, and now it isn't.

Just fyi, the 6.3 liter AMG engine was the first AMG engine to be completely developed by AMG. In the past AMG had used product Mercedes engines and modified them to make them more powerful.

Thanks for everyones input! you guys/gals are very informative and very helpful. I look to pick up a used C63 in a year or two... and the E55 idea is a very good one, however I am in no rush so i think i will hold out for the C63. If, when the time comes, I do not want a C for some reason, I can always go with a pre owned E63 or an even cheaper E55.

if the economy continues its drunken stumbling and lands in the gutter, i think the dealers will be giving these things away new before too long. the real money will always buy the truly exclusive/expensive stuff. a $70k c-class, on the other hand, will be a harder sell in tougher times.

If AMG doesn't go the TT direction on the 6.3 at least we know it can be done thanks to kleeman and with huge gains!!!

Hope AMG changes their minds and does produce the TT6.3! Why not???

I can see a C63 Black coming w/ twin turbos. But can't wait for it, gotta have the C63 NOW... I was going to get the M3S, but the C63 has it beat so badly in all performance categories, the M3S is no longer on my shopping list.
