P30 package in MY 2009?

Interesting press release by AMG on the 2008 C63. If i understand this correctly, it says that the 2009 MY C63 will have the P30 Package as an option. Check out page 5 under AMG performance unleashed.

Rob Allan posted this in the Private Lounge:

This P30 Performance Package will start with Model Year 2009 with June 2008 production and will include an Alcantara steering wheel, 186 mph top speed (up from 155 mph), compound front brakes and a limited-slip differential for $3900 MSRP.

That's pretty clear.

I haven't visited the PL for awhile until today. I guess that it would be kinda pointless to get the 2008 MY after seeing this info, unless of course you don't mind not having the P30. I'm sure there will be plenty of "normal" folks who wont mind though, lol.

So, if my dealership told me they got 2009 model with performance package and available on May 2008, are they lying to me ?

They have misinformed you. Whether that is intentional is unknown.

So, Should I wait for that option? Is it worth waaiting for?
I know the Alcantara steering wheel , ceramic break, and LSD are good extra to "hold" and control the car better...

Any suggestion??

2009 model production for the U.S begins in June I believe. Production orders (by dealers, to MB) are probably taken in May for June production, with the car arriving in July at the earliest, for the U. S.

I was at my MB dealer today, the 09 C's (and other models) are in the ordering system, but not orderable just yet (since the system will not give a price).

Depends on how important the P30 is for you. Some people could do without it, other's can't. If you can wait, do it.If it were my decision to make, i would wait for it, but that's me. I think this option makes a huge difference in the overall performance of the car.

Really a personal decision.

For me the only important option in the package is the LSD which should have been standard with a car that has this kind of torque. I don't plan on tracking the car so the standard brakes are fine for me based on the reviews.

However, the stiffer suspension is actually the reason I wouldn't order the P30 even if it were available. There have been some reviews that even the non-P30 cars have a harsh ride. This is going to be my daily driver so I'm more interested in a ride that's smoother than my E46 M3. I'm just not willing to sacrifice any more comfort for handling than the standard suspension has. And one of the things the C63 has received praise for in almost every review is how impressive it handles compared to previous versions of the class.

If I was interested in tracking the car I would get the P30. But if that were the case I would have ordered the E92 M3 rather than the C63.

The LSD should definitely be included in a car with 443 ft-lbs or torque. I concur with your other points completely.

Is it confirmed that the P30 package will come with a stiffer suspension?

I highly doubt it will be 3,900 bucks. The brakes alone is a five figure price tag on other cars.

I just give my dealer deposit for the car, but it seems the P 030 will only came with LSD and 186MPH speed limiter (Based I saw on their computer). Which is I really dont need...I just hoping for the Alcantara steering wheel and Ceramic Brake....

But my dealer also said, they still not sure because it didnt give them the price for the option...(There is a possibility the option feature will be change)

Any one know more about this?

PS : Sorry if you guys find my grammer is bad

The P30 package comes with compound brakes. Compound brakes are a combination of steel and aluminum with the purpose of reducing unsprung mass.

I would tend to believe the $3900 price that Rob Allan mentioned, although last minute pricing adjustments for US dollar fluctuations could change it in a minor way, but I doubt that it would double or anything like that. The C-Class options need to be priced in accordance with the market it competes as well as where it is positioned in the MB line up.

As of know, all the information that has been given out by AMG points to that $3,900 price. Can they change it later on? Hell yeah, it is MB afterall.

Nice note amg07- I was going to make the same comment as the compound brakes are merely floating with aluminum hats NOT ceramic rotors. MB to my knowledge has never produced a car with ceramics yet.- Pretty sure even the clk dtm doesn't- Awesome on the 09 info though and price! I waited bc of this very issue and will place my allocation when I can for the 09

a bit confused

i have an 08 on order, but have considered waiting on the 09. i have been looking at some of the photos on this site and some (ex: see the steel gray pics) have the alcantra wheel. does this mean it is equipped with the p30 package as an 08 model?

when i ordered, the stone interior, NOR the alcantra wheel were offered as options. for a 60k car, i feel a bit in the dark.

Maybe it will be 3,900. I thought the brakes were ceramic composites.

I think that the bigger picture is being ignored in this thread.

2009 models go into production in June, delivered in July. You'll take delivery of an 2008 model in April, maybe even May, and in potentially as little as 60 days(!) it will be one model year old.

It's ridiculous to even make an '08 model, let alone buy one. P30 or not, the 2008 is a waste of time.

almost half a year....
Thank's for all the replies, it's concluded...I will not take the PP 030 package...

In smaller markets the delivery may not be in July as the smaller market dealers may not get one of those first build slots.

Also if one does not need the P30 package, it probably does not matter much, but the 09s will have better leases, for those leasing.

The 09's will no doubt increase in price, albeit probably not a deal breaker amount.

People talk about this like there's only one side to the equation. My car has 738 ft-lbs so I know that there are times when a locking differential would be very nice. But AMGs are far from unmanageable without one. A little bit of restraint (and I mean a little) when starting from a dead stop, especially if the road is a bit bumpy, goes a long way. Yes, you have to learn when not to floor it depending on curve or bank or camber or surface, but that's part of learning your car. The ESP light means you screwed up, so you learn to drive never lighting it.

On the other hand, the locking diff will allow you to get a bit more torque down in the first 60 feet or when the surface is not ideal. But it comes at a significant cost in tire wear (which is not an abstract concept with any AMG) and handling balance. Yes, an LSD does not improve a car's handling. On the contrary, it increases both understeer (in the dry) and oversteer (in the wet) -- in other words, it makes handling twitchier. These are among the reasons that AMG has resisted widely using locking differentials. For people who track the cars and know what one does, an LSD can make a lot of sense. But for the 90% of us who use only these cars as daily drivers, it may turn out to be something you'd be better off without.
