Tuning the C63 for more power

DMS Automotive's Australian distributor has informed me that flash tuning is available now for those who want E63 like power for their car. 366kw instead of 336kw, and 660nm instead of 600nm, and it removes the speed limiter. Wow!

And if/when the dealer gets the car in for service&finds out it's been flashed say goodbye to your warranty

Just a flash? I would think it would need a new intake airbox also. The c63 already has traction issues....

You are correct. There was an article around here from the source (AMG themselves) about some of the changes. I think they mentioned that the C63 has slightly smaller diameter exhaust pipes, smaller intake box interior, and different ECU mapping.

Regardless...... most of these items should be easily upgradeable for more power. I believe 550 bhp is a very realistic number for the C63, which makes it one heck of a car

i had this same question a while back. it basically means that you remover the computer and get some one to reprogram it. i am sure there is some technical stuff im leaving out.

with the c63 the way it is stock dont you guys think that its more car than most need. i mean i can see people saying that the c350 could use some tweaks but the c63? seems good enough for me.

It'd be nice to de-restrict it&let it have the full HP that the other 63's have. But manufacturers make it somewhat difficult(i.e.-expensive)to re-program and it does take some R&D time for the aftermarket to get it right.

IMO,simply re-flashing an ECU w/out doing other mods(exhaust, intake, etc) is pointless and only worth it if you want to eliminate the 155mph governer

Guys, the flash will bring it up to 491hp, which is still a few less than the most powerful 63. However, this is a great bang for your bucks, and obviously the horsepower has been artificially tuned downwards for our cars. Sure you can liberate another 25hp with more free flowing exhaust and air filter, but I will also spend double what you would on just a flash. I guess it all comes down to whether you want the full extend of this engine's capability or you just want value for money. Btw, the flash will cost me $3500 here, and considering the car cost me over $150k, it's great value!

I have done this on a few of my turbo cars, including a recent Golf GTI and will be doing the same thing on a BMW 135i when it arrives. All they do is plug a connector that is somewhere in the car (they use the same connector to diagnos any issues with the car), and 15 mins later, it's done. All that happens there is that the ECU is reprogrammed. The good thing about flash tuning is that they will store your original code, and can flash it back to the original if required.

63 flashing is not done through the OBDII port. What other parameters are invloved with flashing a C63 as compared to a S63. VIN specific from the dealer on stock software? If not, can you simply take a S63 flash?

You cant flash a C63 with S63 tune, the whole software version is different and the bootloader won't work correctly amongst other things.....To do this will mean expensive ECU recovery work

Let me clarify a little.....
In Australia we have 98 Octane RON (Research Octane Number)
while in the US you have 93 Octane (R+M/2)
What this effectively means is that our Aussie 98 Octane fuel is just under or around the same kind of rating as your 93
When I was in Los Angeles last year I spent a lot of my time explaining this apparent 'rocket fuel' we have
Typical Aussies being difficult!

What kind of gains are you getting for the S63 and E63?
