I love Palladium. Quick question, what purpose do these little flares serve?

I had noticed a couple of cars on the forum without them but until you asked the question, I just thought the owners had removed them. I’ve now looked through the thread at the pics and see there are more cars without them than there is with and it doesn’t appear to be either location or year model specific. I see them on some cars in the UK, Canada and Hong Kong and all Australian models. I understand it’s to protect again stone chips though I think protection would be minimal given the small nature of the part. Maybe another forum member could shed some light on the subject???

As a side note, I’ve had the rear quarters pumped to facilitate the extra width of the new rear rims and tyres and asked that they be retained in the process to maintain the car’s stock look.

No not rolled, there was not enough lip to roll sucessfully. The fenders where pumped out by a panel shop.

Yes the rims were sourced for me from HRE by AMG Australia. Leeson there did a great job in helping out.

Im guessing this is Gloss Silver finished rim? Im thinking of Gloss silver on M40.

How long did you had to wait for the rim? or they have many HRE in stocks?

The rims are Comp93 (front 20x8.5 and rear 20x10) with silver powdercoated centre and polished lip. They were made to order, it took approx. 6 weeks for delivery. The rubber is front 245/30 and rear 285/25.

Yea I noticed C93 has three screws in between the spokes vs C21 only 2 screws.

I'm glad to see a silver powdercoated HRE, because I've been looking for this, and mostly brush finished around. It contrast the palladium perfectly.

BTW my palladium is on its way. CANT WAIT after seeing your photo....

PS:Can HRE do palladium silver powdercoated to match our body colour but I guess there wont be much constrast, but more integrated feeling.

I use power coating on the centres for most of my rims here in Australia, including my HSV’s and Commodores. I find it wears well without chipping and it's easy to clean. I also always apply 3 layers of paint sealer (Optimum Optic-Seal) on the inside and outside of the rims before fitting. It’s optically prefect and I find this makes them easy to clean and the brake dust tends to fall away much easier. The silver is the generic colour code from HRE, it’s a very close match but a shade lighter than Palladium which is what I wanted. HRE will do an OEM colour code if you wish.

Do you do Optimum Optic-Seal on the body paint also? As MB paint is high quality n I assume they have special coating from factory already?

I can be **** about the finish on my cars. I apply paint sealer to all my cars as I go through the detailing process, this includes my BMW. When necessary which is rare, I machine polish with Menzerna to remove any swirls marks. I use Dodo Juice Supernatural as a wax if I feel inclined. It works great on a white car. I have not done anything to the paintwork on the C63 yet and I agree the finish on it is great. As it's not a daily drive, is always garaged and never sees rain, I’m in no hurry to work on it. I have though sealed all the rubber and plastic inside and out with 303 Products Aerospace Protectant. It gives a very even and dark flat black finish and offers good protection from the sun and elements. It’s a precautionary measure. And before you ask, no I’m not a detailer, I’m an enthusiast who like to do the job himself.

I have to say Palladium are the best colour from the standard order list, other than optional Designo colour list.

I used P21S in the past and they are not too bad also.

I would say your prob the first one with C93 on C63 in Sydney, a very special C63 you have there.

Colour choice can sometimes be a difficult and stressful process. My decision was based on what I liked and I also tried to avoid colours similar to some vehicles I already own. I think the black looks sensational and I also liked the white and the red. Though trying to find a buyer for a red Mercedes at resale may not be so easy. If I was to buy again I’d possibly go the blue, with the right choice of rims it would be a stunner.

There are many good detailing products available, I swap and change depending on what I think works well at the time and also I target high end products that are easy to use.

You’re probably right and good luck with your car. If you enjoy it half as much as I enjoy mine, you will be happy with it.

Speaking of colours.....

I find that the lighter colours in cars are great if you use them everyday as they always look cleaner.

However nothing gives back like a dark coloured car that has just been polished and waxed.
