Actual MPG?

Okay its been a few weeks now since some of you have received your new C63's and some of you have since put a few hundred miles on them. Given this, what type of MPG are you seeing? I know what the posted specs are but what is reality showing us? My Audi S4 says 14/21 but when I'm crusin on the highway (no traffic) I can get up to 24 MPG. What are the numbers for the C63 on the highway, actual? This is very important to me as I'll be communting 30 miles every day (highway). Thanks.

In the E63 i could get between 22-24 on the highway with cruise control on. I would hope the C63 could muster the same or better results.

In mixed driving i got 18.7 mpg for c63 more city oriented was 14.7 mpg,
e55 has 15.2 mpg constantly in mixed driving. 20mpg is about maximum what you can get doing 90km/h on a highway, 24mpg is the lowest ive seen for a second when I tested how low I can go. Remember S4 is a 4.2 this is a 6.2 engine, it WILL consume more gas, SORRY!

OK, it sucks a little but let's keep it in perspective too. This is no worse and in many cases better than an SUV. It'll be my daily driver too with a 70 mile round trip commute (mostly freeway). It's gonna hurt a little but my old X5 4.4 got about 17mpg mixed use - only difference is that had a much bigger tank. I wish they had thatin the c63 - for some reason filling up more frequently feels more expensive than paying more when I do have to fill up. Go figure?

Has Brabus or Lorinser designed any side-mounted jerrycans yet?! Maybe a nice black powdercoat with chrome edging?

Keep in mind the MPG should change quit a bit once the engine is broken in. I recall only getting about 12-16 MPG in my C32 when it was new. After break in it avgeraged 19/20 MPG and up to 24 MPG on the hwy. I think it will be a few months before we know the real world MPG.

I can't wait to get my new C63 in August but I am going to miss the combo of a smaller engine with a blower on the C32. I really like the idea of basically running a V6 when you stay off the throttle but then letting the blower do it's thing when you want some power. It's a much better compromise if you ask me. AMG must be rethinking this too because I recently saw an article where they are going back to forced induction in 2010.

i was averaging 10.2 mpg in my e55 wagon (city driving, leadfoot), and i'm much more controlled on the pedal than i used to be, and am in a more reasonable 500 SL (2002), which is still killing me regardless.

how's that $4.25/gallon gas treating y'all? me, i'm looking at caymans, etc. ready to kick the v8 habit (and i've been waaaay v8-focused for 20 years and nearly 10 cars!).

anyone see the end to this price run-up in gasoline here anytime soon? something tells me we're not going below $4 (on average) again for many, many years...

How big is the tank in the c63? What has it cost owners to fill up at what price per gallon? LA gas prices seem to be pretty high to be driving this care day after day? I don't want to consider a 335i, but i might not have a choice when we all see gas increasing in price? I am in the process of finishing up my order for my c63, i am starting to get hesitant.

Reality is that even with the spike, you're probably looking at max ~$20 / week more in a c63 (obviously depends on miles driven, true mpg, driving style etc). My guess is that it will cost me about $15 per week more than my 550i to run using it as my DD. In other words, the same as my old SUV. IMO, a no brainer.

BTW, check out the superb article in the June Edition of Automobile re: Hybrid Rage - written by Ezra Dyer pg 34: a good perspective on mpg

I was just crunching the numbers myself and that is what I came up with about $20 a week ( $3 a day ) if people are complaining about that they should not be buying a $65000 car.

Come on guys. You are paying a $20,000 premium for the AMG package with the big *** motor in it. You have to pay to play even with the gas mileage .

I am not complaining.. I am being smart and realistic with the change in the economy. I understand that you "have to pay to play" but making a stupid decision makes the play not so fun. Geez you guys are way to intense. Just asking questions.

It does suck that the gas mileage is not that great on this car but I do not think that the MPG on this car will discourage to many people from buying it. You would have to expect with a big motor that it would not be good. I only put about 7-8 thousand miles a year on a car so it is not a big deal for me but I could see someone that has to commute alot of miles that the MPG would be important. Hopefully the joy of driving this beast will make up for the loss of gas mileage. I know it will be for me

I'm in the same boat as RJR - I work from home so I don't put a lot of miles on my cars. It would be a totally different story if I commuted every day. The following article does make you think though:

true, but the average commute in UK does not equate to US commute in terms of overall distance.

You have to be kidding? You are looking at a $65,000 car for a weekend crusier and because gas is a $1 a gallon more than it was last year you are not going to buy it? I hope the gas mileage is not the only thing that is keeping you from buying it. This whole gas mileage thing cracks me up. You are buying a car with 451 hp and 440 torque and everyone is worried about the gas mileage. Buy a Hybrid that gets 50 mpg and goes 0-60 in 10 seconds.

But that's a 160-ounce gallon, not our puny 128 ounces. Even worse, you get 20-ounce pints in a pub; our pint is 16. Pathetic.
