From what I've read it's nearly the same size, if not a tad larger than the BMW 5series... and it's no lightweight either. I for one am glade American made cars are finally arriving at the level of the Germans!

Doesn't matter if its faster on the ring. You will never be able to drive yours like that in real life...

Question is do you rather drive a benz or a caddy...

Personally, I'll drive a benz any day over a caddy. Don't like the look or feel of the caddy. Or in that case, I rather have the GT-R or Audi R8.

 

I think the lap time and power output is great and all (go USA), but personally i think its ugly. I'm not saying that just cuz i have a c63, im just not a fan of a boxy sports car that looks like a mini escalade. I like the last body style more.

 

I haven't seen one in person yet. It looks pretty cool in action, though!

 

Overall quality? Benz hasn't been knocking em dead with that. Its getting better, but the lull was certainly there.

Options and features? Im sure you'll find the CTS-V pretty feature laden. It kind of has to be for the price.

Reliability? Id consider that a wash. Cadillac has had pretty good reliability.

Resale? Nothing tanks in value like an AMG mercedes or a Cadillac, so both suck.

Image? point taken, and I agree

Efficency of the motor? Do you really care? A 1.0 liter engine could make 80bhp and be more efficient than your 465bhp, 6.2L engine. which would you rather have.

 

I wouldn't even consider an American car unless it's custom and purposful built (i.e. my Focus V8 TT dragster), they fall apart faster than my E55 goes from 0 to 60, they squeak a lot too, interior is not as nice as Europeans, the whole thing is just cheaper than competitors' products, even if they are in the same class and price range, resale value hurts a lot unless you plan to own it for the next 10-15 years and are willing to take it apart every other day because factory sold you faulty parts.

 

cadillac test primarily at the ring, that and laguna seca. this car might just be set up perfectly for the ring.

 

You're actually considering an American built car!?!?! Don't do it...get the C63.

 

I'm objective enough to consider both for their respective merits. I'm certainly not eliminating one or the other because of what country it was built in. Yes, historical reliability and quality should be considered, but I [for some reason] believe this new V is going to be a step above the last generation.

 

Lots of snobby attitude here... very... Eurotrash, if I may be so bold.

I had an '05 CTS-V, lemon-lawed the car for trash-diffs and leaky tranny. Driveline clunked like mad due to rubber isolators meant to keep the "luxury" panzies sheltered from noise.... but I still loved it. Man, it was awesome to blow the doors off cars that cost substantially more, on the highway and in the twisties. And the sound.... I had the Corsa exhaust!!! That LS6 motor was phenomenal and the sky is the limit when it comes to modding and making cheap(ish) power.

I'm reluctant to buy another GM car but the choice comes down to the c63(which the lack of a stick really blows), the new M3 (has stick or real paddle shifter, which I still think is for girls), and the new V (which I'm not sure of the stick or auto availability).

I've retired my 400hp STI to daily driver duty since I've bought a Lotus Elise for my track car, so I won't need the new car to be a track car...but it'd be nice to go to Watkins Glen in a sport-sedan and knock-off some 2:teens times. Which one will it be....

This video of the “historic run” clearly shows that the CTS-V had a flying start. Heinricy began his lap three corners behind the start/finish line. So he was already up to speed by the time the clock started. Most euro manufacturers testing at the ‘Ring use standing starts for published lap times. http://cadillac.gmblogs.com/2008/05/the_video.html

The GTR did the same thing. Except the GTR used "cut slicks" to accomplish their "historic time". At least the CTS-V used stock tires.

Just an FYI the ZO6 ran a 7:43 with a standing start.
