Yikes! The CTS-V @ the 'ring

First, let me say that I am not a Cadillac fan. My next car will be the C63.

OK, now the bad news; Cadillac is claiming to have set a new benchmark for production sedans at Nurburgring. The much vaunted M3 ran the ring in 8:05 and change (the quickest I am aware of) but now the upcoming CTS-V is videoed doing the ring in 7:59.32

From Autoweek's site: http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1545122232

The driver looks like he is hardly working at all. I'm afraid that this will lead to a lot of smack-talk from the "angular" crowd.

I'm not a fan of Cadillac either, I do however love the Escalades but completely impractical for me. I do like the pics I've been seeing though of the possible CTS coupe. Looks sweet.

Great, that is making the decision even harder. Should I get a M3, C63, or CTS-V? Never been a Cadillac fan but that is impressive.

I'm torn between the C63 and the CTS-V. I'm waiting to see/sit in/drive both.

I want to know what the fine print is on the statement "production sedan" I would be wiling to bet the car that was driven on the Ring is not what you get at the local Cadillac dealer.

It seems that they've gone to lengths to indicate that it is a production car, and the same you'd get off the showroom floor. The exceptions are the seat and harness, as far as I know - supposedly for safety reasons.

Semi slick tires is the only way they could've done this.

The video states, at the beginning, the run was done on "factory-spec street tires".

There will always be nay sayers about what a car can do. For some reason people just cant accept that a cadi is faster than an AMG or M power car. It might not be as refined or as pretty but the CTS-V is blindingly fast with handling to support the speed.

The old CTS-V was very good at the track but yes it fell apart just as fast as its lap times.

I think for legal reasons you could not sit there and post a showroom car with factory street tires and then slap on some Hoosiers or Corsas and run the lap.

I am more shocked with the fact that the automatic car did the lap time. Does that mean its quicker than the stick likely?

I am personally glad to see America build a capable car. Its nice to have a car we make actually stack up well against the existing kings of the sector. I just hope this version lasts longer than the old CTS-V which died in 10k miles.

Its not all about the fastest car or the most power. What about over all quality, options and features, reliablity, resale, image, effientcy of the motor.

I dont think I would put my money into that pot. But good for cadi for raising the bar a bit. Everytime someone raises the bar, the consumer wins. so im happy.

Keep in mind the C63 has a detuned motor, Its far more capable then what they limited it to. The 09 will be less restricted.

I thought the insecure crowd is reserved for M owners, but I really don't see a big deal that the caddy can lap the ring under 8. It basically has a reworked ZR-1 motor propelling it, so it could have at least 500 hp.

As for quality, at least the caddy's interior looks expensive, unlike the new C. But it's too damn heavy, and junk in the trunk is not my cup of tea.

I read it is in the neighborhood of 550 hp.

I don't think people are being insecure. That is an amazing feat, breaking 8 minutes. I agree that this will be good for all of us as the bar is raised.

It would be a stupid reason to choose a cts-v over any of those other cars just becuase it goes 6 seconds faster through the nurburgring. You are not a professional driver and you will not be going 205mph wherever you live.

Just get the car you like not the car thats quicker. Your not going to be racing it everyday and those three cars are pretty much in the same ballpark.

It has 550hp/550tq and it will be costing around 80K I think. How is that a competitor/? perhaps to the BMW M5.

It has a supercharged V8. Of course it has to make some power. An NA C63 with the VRP 530 can whoop on that.

I too am adding the Cadillac CTS-V to the shopping list. I have read alot about the development of this car. 550 hp, a more sophisticated , larger interior than the C63 for about the same money and a better warranty. I hate to say it but this car is going to bruise some delicate AMG and M series egos especially from an overall value perspective.

The new CTS-V will certainly make this class interesting. I am a "Benz Guy" at heart but this car has gotten my attention.

Drove an 06 CTS V. Got it up to 100 on the freeway on ramp! It's a vette in a Caddy body. No doubt it's fast and mean.

A whole different experience than an MB. First of all, when the novelity goes away, it's a Caddy at the end of the day. Not an AMG.

It's a car to keep your eye on.

Geez, what a bunch of scared whiners. They honestly believe that no other car has the right to challenge their "superiority". Get over it. The CTS-V will be a hell of a runner. It will not suit everyone's tastes but it will still make for some spirited driving and will push the envelope that all manufacturers will need to push. Heck, the C63 is a great platform for future enhancements, pushing the M3 and others.

Bring it on!

If one of the three vehicles clearly stood out the decision would be easy. I am not a bimmer, or benz, or caddy guy and find each car visually appealing. I am an enthusiast who loves performance and I value performance over reliability or quality. To date I have only been able to drive a M3. I Haven't even seen a C63 in person and the CTS-V wont be out till the fall.

I thought the CTS was more of a E class/5 series competitor.... Does it fall into the 3 series C class catagory?

It is said to have 567hp, and I believe a loaded one will be around $70k.

An NA C63 with the VRP 530 can whoop on that.
You sure about that?

And, if you're going to talk about modding, I think the CTS-V should be very receptive to mods, as most factory FI cars are.

For what it's worth - I'm considering both the C63 and a CTS-V, and have no brand loyalty, even though I owned a 1st gen V.
