Carbon Fiber on back order????
my MB dealer just called me and told me that the CF option is on back order, and may delay the order significantly
he said he'll know in a week, but he also mentioned the he dosnt think any cars with a july build will not have the CF option
does anyone else have any info or insight on the CF delay???

Same thing happened with me, and others, with Audi on R8. Story dealer told me was that there is a CF shortage because aircraft manufacturers are using all the capacity in the CF world. Out went the carbon sideblades, in came car, back on schedule...

Even though it is man made, but it always is hard to find Carbon Fiber.. especially after the price hikes on the Carbon Fiber last year.

It is on back order because factory processing does not have the CF trim on the assembly line yet. I have ordered mine since november with CF but had my car arrive with darkwood and was told so by an AMG representative. guessing it will be on later production this year or 2009 production.
mine is an 09 order, i have no idea how long the delay is ,
but im hoping not that long
i might cancel the order if i dont get carbon....i really like that look
and im not a big fan of the wood, or aluminum

I tried ordering my 2009 (Mid July Build Date) with CF interior. They had the ability for me to change the color and options, however to get the CF I would possibly have to wait until November. The sales manager said he had some correspondence from MB regarding the limited availability of CF from the factory. Unfortunately, I was unable to get CF on my order. In all, I like the black maple and I also had no idea of the actual pricing (not on the order screen)...plus it wasn't worth the wait to me.
Anyone else actually have the car on order with CF coming early summer (July/August)?

My salesperson had informed me on Friday that MB has a delay on the CF option, my car won't go into the production until 1st week of Sept. & will be here around the end of Oct. I was also told that I'll have their 1st car that has the CF w/ 030 option. Oh well...I won't settle for anything less.

If there is any trim option that ALWAYS seems to delay a car's production (especially Mercedes Benz) its carbon fiber.
While a matter of personal taste, the fact that carbon fiber is rare or causing delays would only make me dig in more to have to have it.
It took a loonnnggggg time to find an SL55 with the carbon fiber trim - but I got it.
And I'm really glad I did. It is very rare and without a doubt gets the most compliments and attention from people who look inside at the interior.
Stick to your choice no matter how long the wait and be patient.
So long as the order is in place, do not break down and deviate unless the carbon fiber option is no longer offered.
There is no substitute for carbon fiber from the factory.

RE: CF Order Delay
I was tempted to get CF, but went with the Black Birdseye trim because there was no info on the CF cost. Hearing this news, I'm glad I did.

I have had similar experiences with my order. I wanted the CF interior, but there was no clear answer about it from the dealer. Hopefully I get one of these cars that has the CF 'whether you like it or not'... LOL. Either way, I can definitely get aftermarket CF interior kit for less than $2500.

CF is made from petroleum (they heat nylon strand to very high temps over and over until they get pretty much pure carbon left over), and there is a worldwide shortage due to the A380 hogging up alot of the resources (lots of CF is used in the airbus A380). In addition there are a few "secret" military aircrafts being made which are also hogging up alot of the CF (or so the rumor has it). CF prices have skyrocketed over the past few years and unless more CF producers come on board soon, it doesn't seem like prices will fall and shortages will end.

2009 C63 AMG Black on Black PP Package CF fully loaded
I was told from one of the Largest dealerships in NYC that the CF will not be available at all for the C63. As of yesterday this was the latest MB update, I did mention to dealer of some people on the forum saying that there dealer is telling them Oct for CF, he said absolutely Not true.
