You'll see how differences btween the cars appear minimal relative to the differences btween drivers. Btw, I think its flattering to see the M cars talked up on the C63 board.

+1 !

I smoked every M-car on the track at my last event at Spring Mountain, NV in March at "M Fest" ... With my Honda S2000 running NT-01s with 226 rwhp and big ricey wing. In fact I still would have beat their laptimes if I'd run street tires.

Bring it, bench racers! LOL. Quote car rag lap times all day long to prove the superiority of your stock street car. That's OK. Sure, the M3 is fractionally superior on the track compared to the C63, with the same (skilled) driver. But if you can't replicate those times yourself at the same track, that's called bench racing. DOH!

It's a love it or hate it thing, I'll be first to admit. Even I hate it the one time a day the clutch decides to lurch from a stop. Overall though, I wouldn't give it up.

The sound of the V10 is something else, especially on a cold-start. Wow. I love BMWs and really wanted the M3. I was tempted and swayed to the C63 because I think as an overall package, for what I will use it for, it is a better car. Call me a torque dork.

Also, it's not a question of "getting the fattest tires" on our cars. The point is AMG under tire their cars and have done for years. My OEM 255/40 285/35 19" setup allied to LSD does just fine. If I affixed a rocket to my car it may break the sound barrier, but that's besides the point.

Now which track do you have in mind? Laguna Seca? I sure it would be fun win or lose.
Agreed. And given that we're talking about the C63 and not other AMGs, the difference in this case once an LSD is added is the tires. For it's weight and horsepower the car is undertired.

Sure. Let's go to LS - Trackmaster Nov 25/26. Personally, I think the C63 will murder the E92 (current M3 correct?) at LS. Sears Point, not sure. Well see. btw, all in good fun.

btw I predict 1:45s (okay now I'm benchracing) for both cars.

After doing a quick read on the M5 - 500hp, 4012lbs unladened - should be close.

The 4012lbs is the ladened weight- fuel, driver, luggage. On tight tracks the E92 M3 would be the faster M but as you say, LS is quite kind to bigger/bigger-hp cars.

By the way, your prediction of a time worries me as to how well you know this track, especially as it's in your back yard. The M-boys will never talk to me again. Now if the stipulation were to run OEM tire widths (track compounds are fine) and tricky rear diffs, or lack thereof, then I may be okay. Even then, maybe I'll stick M5 badges on a Caterham and hope you don't notice.

Evo magazine did a direct head to head comparison between the E46 M3 CS (competition package) and the W203 C55.

Laptime around the 1.8mile Bedford autodrome:
M3 CS: 1.29,8 minutes
C55: 1.30,1 minutes

That's a 0.3 second difference, which is far less than the differences we are seeing between the E92 M3 and W204 C63 on a track. Very similar skidpad grip and slalom numbers between the E46 M3 and W203 C55 confirm that the objective handling is very close. And the C55 managed this without a LSD, and with narrower stock tires than the E46 M3.

Not many people realize that the C55 could keep up with the E46 M3 on a track. The revised suspension and revised ESP system improved dramatically between the C32 and C55.

And you're absolutely right about these published laptimes and the relevance it has for the average driver on typical lapping track day. I've passed numerous M3's and even Porsche 911's and Turbo's with my C55 on street tires. Driver skill and courage make the bigger difference when talking about cars with similar "laptimes".
