E55 & C63 Comparison
After driving my bros c63 amg all day yesterday i would like to compare it to my e55. First off some positives and negatives about the c63
Positives:
1. The exhaust note is one of the best iv heard. Sounds like a Ferrari. very deep and low growl.
2. The transmission is very quick and especially with the down shift blips it is just awesome.
3. The exterior is really nice Mercedes did a good job designing this car.
4. This thing is a beast off the line. Very fast.
Negatives;
1. The interior is very cheap looking and unless you get the leather package it is crap imho.
2. The seats are ok but if your a little bit bigger like me, 5'11 205 lbs, the seats can be uncomfortable at times.
3. The suspension is really stiff and rough. My bro doesnt have the 030 perf. pack. but i imagine that it is even worse with the pp.
Comparing it to the e55:
1. Acceleration e55>c63. This is just my opinion driving them back to back.
2. Exhaust c63>e55. No question here.
3. Suspension e55>c63. The c63 is to rough for me but to each his own.
4. Interior e55>c63. The e55's interior doesnt compare to the c63.
5. Exterior c63>e55. The c63 exterior design is more up to date. Better looking taillights, rear diffuser, and front bumper.
6. Options e55>c63. The c63 doesnt come with that many options. No panorama, keyless go, trunk closer, ventilated seats, etc. options are a must for me.
Again this comparison is just my opinion. People have different views and this is mine after driving and analyzing them back to back.

Good comparison - thanks for taking the time to post it.
The E is always going to be more luxurious than the C so I'm OK with that. It may just be me, but I actually prefer the C interior to the E, especially the 63 with leather. I find it modern and clean and actually made my 550i sport feel a little old fashioned when I got back into it. The new E will undoubtedly take it up a notch as, let's face it, the current gen isn't a product of MBs finest hour, as nice as it is.
And yes, it's all personal choice - the E55 is great - just wish they hadn't committed one of the major gages in the cluster to being an analogue clock though. Just don't call me picky

I might add that the rear seat+ trunk e55>>c63, front seat space E55=c63.

e55 v c63
Thanks for the comparison.
accelaration: tests have proven that they are about the same (within a few tenths depending on which magazine and weather conditions)
You forgot to mention that there is a substantial difference in price between the 2 models. At least 20K or about a 1/3 of the total costs of a new C63. It seems logical that the interior and confort levels be quite a bit different and superior in the E class.
Price alone will be a factor for many folks. Personally, I would still rather have a brand new C63 than a 3 year old about to be outdated E55. Actually, I'd rather have a 1 year old C63 demo model for like 20% off MRSP but that won't happen anytime soon

Acceleration tests IN MAGAZINES is everything that's wrong with your post. Magazine acceleration tests don't mean jack. You won't see bone stock C63's running 11.8's at the track, but that's what E55's do. Head on over to the W211 forum and do a search. Over there people use real world data.

show me at least 3-4 who run 11.8 stock with stock tires.
From what i remember very few broke 12 in a stock car.
here how many i found
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-10571.html
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-14681.html
those above the only ones who seems to be stock ( or so we trust what they wrote)
Other who broke 12's were either running Drag redials or were moded.
C63 might see some lower 12's stock, with slight tuning and mabee DR tires they will be in high 11's
We'll see.
P.s whats with the hating on C63???

we'll thats what im saying only very few dedicated track hoes (aka lovers) will extract full potential of the car on the drag strip. but it takes a lot of runs, knowledge and tricks to do so good!
there's a guy on vette forum who did around 40 runs untill he managed to break into 10s with his stock C6 Z06! Average joe who doesnt know how to launch and how to set up his car right will run poor times, although the car is capable of running much faster.
Just obvious thoughts of very avarage joe who been to the track very few times myself.

I'm pretty Sure there will be some fast C63 coming REAL soon. The Engine has capable of atleast 507 to 514hp with no bolt-ons just maybe a flash ecu. It is the same motor I have RIGHT!

Nice review.
I test drove the much heavier 493hp CL55 AMG and its BadAzz twin the 600hp CL65AMG.
SOTP the C63 feels like it will outrun both of them, but tests show the CL65 should haul the mail past the C6, I have no doubt the C63 will eat the CL55s lunch.
As for 11.8s, throw a set of DRs on the C63 and I have no doubt it will run 11.8s to 11.9s at 114-116 Bone Stock.
My bet is a simple Performance Tune (maybe with filters) will have this car up 50-60hp and running low-mid 11s on DRs at 120mph.
On street tires those extra ponies will probably be wasted in tire smoke except at higher passing speeds.
I've owned faster cars than the C63, but nothing more fun to drive.
The sound will hook you

Best run in real life has netted a decent 12.8&a very unimpressive 108mph.The 60' was really not *that* bad at 2.0sec...Please tell me how you plan on getting your short time in the 1.6's to run your low 11sec pass...
BTW,any stock 65 will OWN any modded or otherwise 63

I passed on a 14K 2005 CL65 for $82K
It was kind of like having a Big Boat that was fast in a straight line versus a Slightly Slower Speed Boat that could maneuver better and sounded better.
Best way to sum it up is, the CL65 is a Quiet, but Higher powered Muscle Car and the CL63 is a Louder, better handling, but slightly slower Sports Car.
For pure driving thrills, the C63 blows it away except for in the 1/4 mile, but how often will we do that in the real world.

I am sure the CL65 will, but it did not have the "FUN FACTOR"

I heard a local guy ran a 12.3@116 in a stock C63 AMG at E-town in the great air of NJ at a sea level track.
One magazine actually ran 12.3@114 on stock tires and a 0-60 in 4.1.
Most magazines are at 12.5@113+
I feel a good set of DRs should allow a 0.2 advantage in the 60', from a 2.0 to a 1.8.
0.2 in the 60' translates to 0.4 in the 1/4.
12.3 minus 0.4 = 11.9
ATCO is about 0.1 faster than E-town for some reason, so....
Given the possibility of a 0.5 second swing with DRs, I do believe somebody will run 11.9s in a C63 on DRs on a cool fall day.
That's the plan....

11.9 is a world away from low to mid 11's,based on the cars you've listed in you sig I'm sure your aware of that.
The only run I've heard of at E-Town was the 12.8@108...news travels fast around the NY Tri-State Area AMG community

It might take headerrs to get those power gains also and of course traction will be the limiting factor.
