C63 with mufflers removed
I have already removed the center pipes and changed for X-Pipes, but I want a louder sound. I'm thinking in remove the mufflers.Did someone already remove the mufflers of an C63?

Yes, I'm newb with my C63... I just got mine last month!
The difference only appears on high revs and down shifts, I got a louder and stronger sound. I have asked about the mufflers, because I don't want to mess with the sound of the exhaust, I just want it louder.

Actually I will post it tomorrow, cause I think I will really remove the mufflers and I want to rear the difference too. Believe me, You will really LOVE the sound!

Such a waste. I think per VRP, the stock mufflers flow very well. Perhaps slap on some Magnaflows?

I've been considering that when mine comes in. Where did you get your xpipe?

How about installing the remote, adjustable, electronic cut-outs on end of the x-pipe. That way, it's easy to replace back to stock and is adjustable to your current sound/hp (Closed) to super loud/high hp (Open) and everything in between (1/4, 1/2/, 3/4 open)

I'm removing the Mufflers right know. I have tested the car without it and the soud was amazing. I will make a sound clip and try to post it today! Actually it is not in X format it is H format. Two straight pipes with a little pipe in the midle, but the result is the same. In a few ours I will post some pictures of my new muffler I have took today. I did it in an Exhaust shop here in Brazil.
Your car will now be ready to roll thru the slums&ghettos of the inner city and fit right in

It's a good idea to research these things thoroughly before you go through with them. However, it seems as if you're more about the attention the noise brings to you, so why worry about the horsepower.

Normally, if low restriction costs you anything, it's torque. I can't imagine taking the mufflers off this thing reducing your horsepower at 7200 RPMs. There appears to be lots of restriction in the stock set-up, so getting to the point that the restriction is so low that it costs your power I think is a long way off, especially if those canisters hanging directly off the exhaust manifold are cats (?) and remain untouched.
All of this is IMO from being around the block, we should let the dyno numbers tell the story.

Does anyone have the research here? From the full pics of the C63 exhaust system, it looks very choked. Sound is personal choice, so let the guy have it. Horsepower can be measured and factual. If VRP is correct about the mufflers being very high flow, this mod he is doing shouldn't compromise horespower at all, and could even increase it. (Dyno anyone?)

Isn't it more cost effective and much more "sleeper" to just take a utility knife and stab a few holes under the muffler? ....reminds me of the good old days back in highschool where my friend wanted to make his '87 Camry louder so he picked up a sharp rock and smashed the muffler. He got the results he wanted without spending a dollar. Maybe you should do the same

My opinion is that if VRP is correct and the mufflers are high flow and at end of the line of many other restrictive components, it would not necessitate a remap of the fuel curve, flow or psi. The fuel needs to be adjusted when the balance becomes offset with the scavaging effect or low restriction of the modified exhaust system to allow more air to be pulled into the intake manifold. I believe you would ideally like to maintain 12.5:1 to 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio. Although I or many others wouldn't remove the mufflers, I don't think that our Board Friend doing so will necessitate a complete remap of the fuel curve, a higher flow injection system and/or adjustment of the fuel pressure.

I believe I mentioned to let the dyno (real data) do the talking. I know what you're getting at here (which I agree with), but it appears that you completely missed the point of my post. My point was that I don't believe eliminating the second to the last, high flowing component of a multi-angled, 12 foot long, 6+ piece exhaust system was going to make a much of a difference...and to let the dyno tell the story.

Whatever,it's not my car
The only dyno that matters to me is the dragstrip...it doesnt lie&cannot be manipulated by crafty operators like a dyno can.I learned not to rely on dyno numbers as an indication of performance many many years ago

I see your point, and I understand your explanation as it was a very well thought out one.I,like yourself, would never remove the mufflers from a car just to get more noise. However, every action has a re-action and alot of engineering went into developing the exhaust sysytem,as well as the proper amount of scavenging for the sysytem with said exhaust in place. Will this effect the factory ECU settings w the mufflers/exhaust/x-pipe what-have-you tampered with? I don't know as I'm not an expert in this area. But I would think there would be some recourse as to removing them without doing anything else.

This is the picture of the center pipes, and the mufflers removed. They are doing the pipes that will substitute the mufflers. I don't care about loosing horse power, I did a ECU Remap to 540 HP and I have ordered the airbox whit air filters from VRP, and will change the headers soon. And if something gets wrong, I will put the original back or buy a new exhaust system.

An ECU tune to 540hp? Good lord, somebody call JRCart& get him his money back for the CLK63 B.S. he spent 5 figures on tuning to get 70hp...
