Great bang for the buck really. New 335tt's are just as quick as the E46 M3's off the line and pull away from them easily at higher speeds. For about $3k in performance mods, you can have a 335 virtually as quick as the E90/E92 M3, probably quicker. I think BMW really screwed up. Personally I'd take a modded 335 over a new M3. And now BMW has the new 335 twin turbo diesel's coming out in a couple months for 09' which from what I read in BMW magazine are absolute torque monsters. Aftermarket companies are already working on software upgrades for the upcoming diesels which are predicted to smoke the modded gasoline 335's.

How much additional HP does a chipped 335i get from stock 300hp?
Compared to the older NA "M" w/ 333HP I see the advantages of having the 335i... but the new "M" is still way better at 414hp... and lighter.
But...
How will it compare to a stock C32 w/350hp
or a modded C32 at 400+hp
or the C63... at 450hp
???

There are threads mutilating the horse on this topic to no end. I can tell you that after running around in a chipped 335 for a year, the last 6 months in the M have convinced me that there is no comparison, bar none.

But thanks for posting up the comparison. I've seen on M3post and M3forum that you're not the only one that's gone from a modded 335i to an M3, and your sentiments resemble everyone elses'...
The entire modded 335i vs. M3 comparison and arguments are a bunch of rubbish. I'm not sure if people have seen the video of the Dinan Stage 2 335i v. the M3 and the modded 135i v. the M3... Come on now.

Dinan sucks. They minimize gains to avoid warranty issues and charge and arm and a leg. Every other aftermarket tuner that designs and manufactures a part, is able to have much more significant gains than anything Dinan. I made that mistake on my 02' 330 coupe only to eventually sell all my Dinan parts and go with other tuners.

Not sure how much horsepower these cars are putting down to the wheels. The dyno posted on the bmw forums with Juicebox 3, intake and exhaust show a 335i sending 395 hp to the rear wheels. I'm gonna guess that would be equivalent to about a 430 hp engine??? Not sure on the calculations for drivetrain loss percentages.

Interesting.. I assume you don't know but I'm very curious re how it was tuned.. (intake? software? exhaust?). A friend has one and is interested in some mods... Any more details on that race? from what speed to what speed? car lengths? I'm assuming a stock M3 DCT coupe and a stock C63 should be very close but yet to see it happen..

The owner was very secret about his mods, the only thing I could see, was exhausts.
From 50 km/h to 250 km/h (30 mph to 150 mph) and 0-250 km/h (0 mph to 150 mph).

I must say I'm surprised at the size of the gap in this race (esp with only exhaust on the M3). Maybe if he had everything currently out for the M3 (software, mufflers, X pipe, power pulleys and intake) then...

M3 dosnt weigh less than a 335i coupe. 335ic is at 3571lbs.
TQ is huge in the 335i.
Im sure all of you are sick to death of the m3 335i comparo,,,, but BMW really did place these too way too close.
The 335d coming out has 465lb./ft. And get 23mpg city//// 33+ highway.
What is the M3 putting down for mpg? I get around 31-33 on the highway at 75mph in 6th gear.
All in all,, BMW puts out very nice cars.

Great videos... There shouldn't be any surprise as to the result of the video. The C63 is expected to beat the M3 coupe in a straight line and up to at least 120 mph, as per Top Gear video and almost every other video review. Now add to that the fact that the convertible is slower than the coupe, and you get the current results.

I can't blame Gustav for this. The driver of the C63 (Alex396ss) is on this board and even posted in this thread. Only thing in doubt is whether the M3 had more mods than the driver of the M3 acknowledged (in addition to the Hartge exhaust).
