While I'm trying to resolve my PP negotiations, maybe you can suggest a backup?

At this point, I don't know if my dealer is going to come through with making my deal right. I need to buy in Oregon where I spend 1/2 of my time and to avoid sales tax), so that means my C63 deal options are limited.

I need a 4 door sedan (for wife and kids occasionally), cornering is not as important as straight-line acceleration, and I would like some luxury and techno-goodies...

Is there anything else out there (I'm aware of the new M3, the ISF, etc.). I was thinking maybe there is another car out there that is 2-3 years old that has depreciated substantially... E63? S63? M5? I'd like to stay around $65k or less.

Any thoughts for a backup for me to explore?

Are you kidding me? What is your dealer asking you to pay? At the most you should only pay the $1200 for the LSD. If he says no order one from another Oregon dealer and make him wait to the last minute before you cancel. I would not let them have control over what car you purchase. If you want the C63 there are other people to buy from in Oregon. Bend or Eugene to name a couple.

Have you considered the Audi RS4?

I'm no expert here, but I don't think it matters where you buy the car (Oregon or elsewhere) it just matters where you title it. So if you buy a car in CA and title it in OR, you won't pay sales tax.

+1 on the RS4. I've heard that deals are pretty easy to come by on them now.

OB,

I ordered the PP and mine is coming only w/ LSD and speed delimiter. If I had to configure the car exactly as I wanted, I would just have the LSD portion of the PP anyway. So I asked my dealer to waive the $1250 for the speed delimiter and they did. So, I am getting what I want at a lower price. Ironically, the whole coding error issue for the Perf. Pkg. could not have worked out better for me. You can also find some great deals on used M5's.

The problem is that I have waited 5 months and really can't wait any longer. I either need to bite the bullet and accept their deal (if they don't back down), or get something else within the next 3 weeks. I wanted a Mars Red C63, and I don't think I want to go pay $65k for a silver, white, or black one with wood interior trim (which is mostly what I see)...

You could always call MBUSA and explain your frustrations regarding the screw-up and tell them what other dealers have done and that your experience would be much better if your dealer would comply. I would also tell the dealer that based on other's experiences, they are being unreasonable and you plan to let MBUSA know your frustrations with them.

If you really want the car, $2450 for the LSD is not terrible.

Yes, I know that the $2,450 for an LSD is not completely unreasonable, but now that I have seen others get deals under MSRP and resolve this PP issue, yet my dealer is saying the MBUSA won't flex, it's becoming a PRINCIPAL issue.

What is the number to call MBUSA?

If you don't mind a used car over new then there are plenty of options for your price range and an E63 would be at the top of my list. More room, classic good looks still, and the same motor.

Do you prefer auto or stick as Mercedes is the only performance sedan with an auto?

If I really had a choice, I'd rather have a stick. The Audi and Lexus would be options, but there is not an aftermarket for mod's for them as much as BMW and Mercedes...

Spent 15 minutes on the phone w/ MBUSA. They took down all my information, assured me the info is going to the correct party, and that an expedited specialist familiar with the situation will be getting back to me on Monday...

For whatever that it worth...

The dealer and MBUSA has to know you will walk if you do not get your deal. YOU must be ready to walk if you don't get your deal.

Then things seen to change.

dude

If you prefer stick, there is no substitute on the market for the RS4... awesome Germanic understated, but mean looks, quattro, great deals, etc. I am only considering the C63 AMG because I spend a lot of time in traffic. 4-door sedan with stick, I dont think that you can beat the RS4...

+1 RS4 all the way for stick. I already have a stick on my Boxster S or that would be my choice.

I'm sorry to say this guys, but if you want a stick replacement for the C63 AMG, the only replacement would be the M3 sedan.

The RS4 is good - actually great, but outdated in terms of styling (new A4 on the way), power, and performance (remember, it's quite old). Now I actually prefer the RS4 styling to the new M3 sedan, however that is relative and I don't know what you like better. In almost every category the M3 will win, on top of sublime performance, it's practically free maintenance.

Can I disagree without you hating me?

I owned an E46 M3 and loved it. I have been waiting for the new M3 for a long time. Reading, evaluating, etc. I went and drove it for a good 30-45 minutes. My BMW salesman knows that I am a serious buyer.

I hated it. Why?

- ugly exterior... I think that the sedan actually looks a little better than the coupe, but still very slab sided, looks exactly like any 3-series (nothing wrong, but this is supposed to be their big hunky performance model) to me and the exhaust/tips hang down so low in the back, they look aftermarket

- ugly interior... all the swooping swervy curvy stuff looks like crap to me. I loved the steering wheel and the seats, but thats it

- less torque than our minivan... well, ok, maybe not exactly true.. but close. less than 285 or so lbs of torque in a 4000lb car with 420 hp? And what little torque there is feels very peaky up in the 6k+range, along with the hp. Very very very peaky in my driving experience. Would be infinitely more fun on the track than the RS4, but how much time is someone going to take their 4-door M3 on the track?

Bottom line, I wanted to desperately to love the M3, but I just cant...

I agreed with you until I drove the DCT version. That makes all the difference in the world. Pluses for the M3 Sedan...no maintenance, bigger back seat, 19" tires available and you don't have to pay extra for suspension, brakes and LSD.

I am still buying a C63, two weeks away.

It's official, my dealer won't budge, and I'm going to get my deposit back. It's a principal thing - too many others have gotten cars under MSRP and/or have had this PP issue taken care of better.

I will look at the E63, ISF, RS4, M3, etc. again a little harder. I thought there might be some other option like a CLS63 a year or two old...

Start calling other dealer or better yet ask MBUSA to locate you a dealer with a Mars Red C 63. It is the least they can do for you.

I think that you are making the right choice... always a lot of frenzy around these newer cars for a bit, then they start sitting around lots and the deals are to be had. I have been the one to suck it up a couple times in the past, and I always regret it a few months later when others are getting $5-10k better deals. Just be patient, you will find a dealer that you like. For what it is worth, of everyone I talked to, Chris at MB Traverse City, Michigan seemed the most reasonable, knowledgeable person to deal with. I am still figuring out what I am going to do, so I havent ordered/purchased yet, but he would be at the top of my list.
